Covers of the Rainbow: Yellow

Posted February 19, 2013 by Jana in Cover Talk, Covers of the Rainbow / 6 Comments

You know me! I love colors, I love art, and I love beautiful book covers. So this new feature here on my blog features my favorite covers from every color of the spectrum. I’ll also feature a short explanation of the color’s meaning so we can discuss if the predominate use of that color was a good choice.

Oh, lovely lovely yellow. I don’t know about you, but I am tired of winter. And I mean TIRED. This winter has been more brutal that this state has had in about 60 years, and I am counting the degrees until spring! So how about I showcase some lovely sunshiney yellow colors to get away from this wintery slump?

Pure, bright and sunnyyellow is the easiest color to see. People who are blind to other colors can usually see yellow. Yellow is full of creative and intellectual energy. Always use yellow note pads. It symbolizes wisdom, and means joy and happiness.

So, what do you think? Does yellow work for these covers? Have you read any of these? What covers am I missing?

  1. Great feature!

I love the colour yellow, its such a bright, warm colour! :D I think it works well for these covers, except I’m not so keen on the cover of Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging, the other covers I’ve seen for it are nicer. But the rest of the covers that you have chosen to feature are gorgeous!

  2. I’m ready for spring, too and yellow is just the color for it. Yellow always makes me happy. These covers are fun. Doesn’t seem like there are very many yellow ones out there. I think I like The Queen of Kentucky the best.

  3. Oooh, what a great feature! Being the cover snob that I am and having organized my book shelf by color, I HAD to love it, right?! And I love how happy this color makes me feel, though I always feel like I don’t like yellow all that much. My “yellow shelf” has a lot of Dutch translations, and also The Help by Kathryn Stockett, a Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants book and Peaches by Jodi Lynn Anderson in Dutch. And Altered by Jennifer Rush, but I’m annoyed that it’s more neon and therefore, doesn’t look good haha. Oops, wasn’t planning to write a novel, but oh well :)

  4. I’ve read Gold and Angus, etc. I think it’s great for Gold…and while I’m partial to the Angus cover as that’s the one I read (before they changed the covers partway through the series…my BFF was not impressed lol), it’s not a stellar design. The other ones all look good. I think the bright/distinct colours of the Girl books really helped people notice them. Lovely post! Bring on spring! :)
