This week’s topic is about the books you loved or really liked, but can’t remember much about. This is a big problem for me, especially where series books are concerned. I love reading a really amazing series, but sometimes I get caught up in so many series at a time that I get really overwhelmed. I end up forgetting the important things from the first/second books and not having the time to re-read them (or the desire because I didn’t LOVE it enough to read it again), but still wanting to finish the series! It’s so frustrating. Luckily I have the Recaptains to help me remember the important stuff, but not always! I’m going to highlight those series books I read but don’t remember, which has sadly prevented me from finishing the series.
1. Poison Study (Study #1) by Maria V. Snyder
2. Pandemonium (Delirium #2) by Lauren Oliver
3. Grave Mercy (His Fair Assassin #1) by Robin LaFevers
4. Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass #2) by Sarah J. Maas
5. Forbidden (Forbidden #1) by Kimberly Griffiths Little
6. The Winner’s Curse (The Winner’s Trilogy #1) by Marie Rutkoski
7. Rebel of the Sands (Rebel of the Sands #1) by Alwyn Hamilton
8. Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone #1) by Laini Taylor
9. Thorns (The Frost Chronicles #2) by Kate Avery Ellison
10. Captivate (Submerged Sun #1) by Vanessa Garden
11. The Conspiracy of Us (The Conspiracy of Us #1) by Maggie Hall
12. Of Sea and Stone (Secrets of Itlantis #1) by Kate Avery Ellison
13. Uncommon Criminals (Heist Society #2) by Ally Carter
14. Shatter Me (Shatter Me #1) by Tahereh Mafi
15. A Thousand Pieces of You (Firebird #1) by Claudia Gray
Obviously I need some help here! Which books are worth re-reading so I can finish the series? Which were meh? Which should I give up on completely?
Have you ever had this problem I’m dealing with? What do I do?
I’ve heard Maria’s ‘Poison’ books are really good, and have been curious about Lauren’s. Also, at some point I *REALLY* want to read Ally’s Heist Society books. They’re generally well liked from all I’ve read and as I did enjoy “All Fall Down,” I’m curious to read more of her books. :)
Oh, and Marie’s trilogy has been on my shelf for far too long.

I did really like Poison Study and Delirium, so I feel like I owe it to them to complete their respective series. lol. The Heist Society books are wonderful! I really have no idea why I haven’t continued on. They are so much fun. I want to read All Fall Down as well.
I had the same problem with the Heist Society series. I’m actually not sure I even read the second book. But I love Ally Carter, so maybe I’ll try again someday.

I really liked the first two HS books, so I don’t really have an excuse for not having read the third except for the fact that I had a million other books to choose from. lol
Out of the ones you’ve mentioned, I’d definitely give the Shatter Me a series a reread. I think it’s worth it! Thanks for hosting, Jana!

I keep hearing that! And I liked Shatter Me. I remember enough that I knew I was intrigued and excited to continue, so I do think this series deserve more love. lol
Sadly, I haven’t read any of these. I’m familiar with many, but…I did read several of Ally Carter’s series about girl spies. It’s a problem when one reads many series. A lot of mystery series run together for me at times. And I can never keep up with all of them. I’ve had to pick a few and just concentrate on those.

Yeah, picking a few series to really focus on is what I should have done. lol. I’m getting better at this now as I have so many more books to manage. I can imagine it would be really tricky with mystery series!
I’ve read Grave Mercy, Poison Study and The Winner’s Curse too. And I also can’t remember that much about them.😂 I do remember Daughter of Smoke and Bone well though.
Thanks for hosting Top Ten Tuesday!🙌
lol. I don’t know what it is that makes me decide to read a book and then forget about it! lol. I remember enough to know I liked them, but that’s it! bahaha.
I thought Firebord overall was worth it in the end. :)

See, that’s how I feel about that series as well. I really enjoyed the first one, I own the whole trilogy, and the covers give me heart eyes. lol
Poison Study is definitely worth rereading – I absolutely LOVE it! :-)
I kind of knew right when I added it to my list that it was worth re-reading. I loved that book as well. :)
Oh so many of these I really enjoyed! I would say Throne of Glass for sure that series is supposed to end this year and I am in LOVE with it! I also can’t wait to finish out Rebel of the Sands. Daughter of Smoke and Bone was great for me but I did find i enjoyed the audiobooks better than reading on that one. I hope you dive back into some of these!
I loved Throne of Glass, but Crown of Midnight felt tedious to me. Maybe it was just my mood. I do want to continue that one because I love SJM. Ditto to Rebel of the Sands. I loved that book as well, and even have book #2 and pre-ordered #3. I just need to get on it! Good idea about audiobooking DoSaB. I’ll have to sample them to see how I like the narrator.
Haha, I think about half of these are on my TBR, but the only one I’ve read is Shatter Me (which wasn’t my cup of tea). Reviewing books helps me a lot to remember them (the ones I’ve forgotten are mostly from my pre-review days), but some unlucky books just fall into hectic parts of our lives and we just don’t retain them, even if they’re amazing!
Amber @ The Literary Phoenix recently posted…Great Books I Don’t Remember
See, I think that’s what happened to me! I’ll love the first book and then the 2nd or 3rd will be released around the time of a bunch of other books I’m dying to read and it falls between the cracks. By the time I remember I wanted to continue, I’ve forgotten too much of it. It’s a horrible thing to have happen. lol. It’s really too bad that so many YA books are trilogies or series. I get why pubs do it, but it’s really hard on readers to juggle SO MANY!
The only book I’ve read from your list is The Winner’s Curse and I only finished the series at the weekend (after reading them back-to-back), however, I definitely don’t think I will remember much of the plot in a few months time. Shatter Me and A Thousand Pieces of You are both on my TBR though.
Lauren @ My Expanding Bookshelf recently posted…Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Really Liked But Can’t Remember Anything/Much About
At the time, I remember thinking that The Winner’s Curse was pretty slow. I don’t remember being grabbed hard by it, and it took me a while to get through. I gather you didn’t feel that way since you finished the trilogy, so what was it that makes it feel unmemorable to you?
I’m not really sure to be honest. The story was decent, but I just think that after a couple of weeks I’ll just forget who the characters were and what the whole plot was. I do agree that it was quite slow at times too.
Lauren @ My Expanding Bookshelf recently posted…Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Can’t Believe I Read
That makes sense. I’ve come across books like that before that just didn’t stick with me for no reason other than the fact that I read other books that were more memorable. lol
You’ve just made my tbr list explode with interesting looking books, thank you. I remember I liked Shatter Me somewhat but wasn’t a fan of the Laini Taylor book.

Yay, I’m glad I’ve given you so many recommendations! Or… sorry? lol. Shatter Me was kind of meh for me, although I was always planning to continue because people love it so much. DoSaB was kind of out there for me. A little too wacky, but I liked pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I don’t know if I’ll ever really get back to that series just because it was hard enough reading the first book the first time. lol
I’m so glad that I’m not the only one who has this problem – ha! Thanks so much for hosting this topic, Jana! It was fun to go back and look at some older books that I know I enjoyed…for what I can remember…and revisit them. Hope you’re having a great week!
You’re not alone! hehe. I’m glad you had fun with this topic! It’s always nice to go back and remember the oldies. :) Hope you enjoy your upcoming week! I can’t believe it’s already that time again. lol
I love the Study series by Maria V Snyder! The middle series not so much but I read them in the wrong order. The third series is great too but I’m going to need to re-read 1 and 2 before I finish 3…
I also enjoyed The Winners Curse series, Rebel of the Sands and Grave Mercy – though I don’t really remember this one much now.
I often read the blurbs of the other books to see if I want to continue with the series, it really helps!
I think I’ve decided I do need to re-read Poison Study so I can continue with the series. :)
I do the same thing you do with reading blurbs to see if the next book(s) head in a direction I’m happy with.
Whelp! I did next week’s post instead! I never do that! Lol!! Loved Poison Study!! I can remember bits of it, but it’s hard to remember everything about every book!
Here’s my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!

I’ve seen Rebel of the Sands on a few lists this morning so you’re definitely not alone on that one. I still need to read it myself, and I also need to read Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Shatter Me.
For me it’s Empire of Storms! In fact, what happened in the whole Throne of Glass series again?! 😂
Haven’t read any of the other books you mentioned, but loved this topic!
I love the Daughter of Smoke and Bones series (if you like audiobooks at all, it’s read by one of my favorite audiobook narrators, Khristine Hvam). I also need to re-read and re-start both of Sarah Maas’s series! And I while I do remember Shatter Me and the sequel pretty well, I still haven’t read book 3. It is tough to keep it all in my head when I read so much!
I’d say that Poison Study and Crown of Midnight are worth or re-reading!
I have not read any of those…lol. :)
Stormi recently posted…TTT ~Books I liked but can’t remember
I have a hard time keeping series books straight. They all tend to blend and get lost in my head. There are a lot of books on my TBR on your list and some gorgeous covers.
I also featured first books in a series that I unintentionally abandoned! I, too, need to get back to Daughter of Smoke & Bone series, because I loved the first book so much. I did read Heist Society but that’s as far as I got, not because I didn’t enjoy it but just didn’t get back to it!
Darlene recently posted…Books I Really Liked But Can’t Remember Much About #TopTenTuesday
From what I liked, you should re-read Daughter of Smoke and Bone and mayyybe A Thousand Pieces of You (this one isn’t as good of quality, but it’s a fun idea). I would skip the Delirium/Pandemonium books by Lauren Oliver. I remember reading Pandemonium and thinking how terrible it was compared to the first book and then someone who read the whole series said it doesn’t get better. :|
Happy reading with whatever you decide!
I am not sure I remember what happened in Crown if Midnight. I read the first two back to back so they blend. I remember Pandemonium because I love that series :)

I should have added Grave Mercy to my list! I absolutely loved reading that book but I remember absolutely nothing about it! Great list!
I have Poison Study on my list as well, and I am planning on rereading that; I do remember really loving it, enough to want to read all of Maria V. Snyder’s books!

I must admit I love the His Fair Assassin books but I’m terrible at finishing series and still haven’t read Mortal Heart and to be honest I probably should reread Grave Mercy and Dark Triumph – especially as Robin LaFevers is bringing more books in the series out! I remember absolutely loving Dark Triumph so I definitely recommend continuing with the His Fair Assassin series.

I loved Grave Mercy, too. I can’t remember much of it either!
I loved the His Fair Assassin series! Each book features a different main character, so it would be very easy to pick up with Dark Triumph even if you didn’t re-read Grave Mercy first. There is a bit of an overarching plot that gets carried through all three, but I think you’d be able to figure it out just fine.
I also read Poison Study – and at least one of the sequels – but can’t remember much about it. I remember liking it, though, so maybe we should both re-read it?
Nicole recently posted…Top Ten Tuesday ~ Books I Liked But Don’t Remember
You have to try rereading #8!! Daughter of Smoke and Bones series was really great!
I haven’t read any of those series so can’t help you out, but for me, if I don’t read the sequels soon after the first one I find that I never get to them. I think I miss out on some good series because of this.

I’ve added Delirium to my list. I Can remember liking them but can’t remember the series at all!!
I haven’t read any of these books. I have tried reading Grave Mercy, but for some reason I wasn’t so impressed by it. I do plan on trying again, only because I know that at the time I picked it up I wasn’t really in the mood for YA. Maybe this time I’ll like it.
Ruby @ Ruby’s Books recently posted…Top Ten Books I Really Liked but Can’t Remember Anything/Much About
I’ve read the whole Firebirds trilogy by Claudia Gray. The first two books are great, and the third is just okay. I’d say read the trilogy if you had a strong connection to the characters in the first book; otherwise, leave book one as a nice standalone memory.
Most of these are new to me, but the Heist series is still sitting unread in my office. :(
Daughter of Smoke and Bones is very clear in my memory but I went on and read the other books in the trilogy. It is surprising sometimes how quickly details fade.
I think you should read Winners Curse again! And Crown of Midnight! Did you start the ToG series with The Assassin’s Blade? If not, you should go back and start there 😊
I loved the Shatter Me trilogy, I would re read that :) And that’s too relatable on wanting to finish the series but not being able to remember the beginning.

You’ve read so many books that I’ve had on my TBR list in forever. As for which book I would recommend you reread, that would definitely be Shatter Me. I love that series and the fourth book Restore Me is going to be released soon. =)
Daughter of Smoke and Bone–one of my most favorite trilogies ever!
I haven’t read ANY of these books although I’m interested in Poison Study. The premise seems so interesting!
I didn’t like The Winner’s Curse as much as I hoped I would, but the series got better with each book. Great list!

I haven’t read Rebel of the Sands yet. I hope I don’t feel the same way. I’m lowkey looking forward to it. Some days. :) I also want to read all of Ally Carter’s books at some point. I don’t even know how many books and series there are now.
I say give The Winner’s Curse another go! I read the first book the year it came out, and just read the second and third books in December. I didn’t even reread or look at spoilery reviews for the first book, and I never got confused! It’s also been way too long since I’ve read Forbidden and The Conspiracy of Us. I know I really enjoyed the books, but like you, I don’t remember much.

By the point, I’ve finished “Crown of Midnight” it was my favorite book of the series even after “Heir of Fire”, but now 2 years later I remember almost nothing. Awkward. Still, one of my favorites covers tho. I’ve read “Poison study” last year and I can recall some moments of it right now, but don’t ask me for any deeper descriptions. I can’t do it. :D For “Rebel of the Sands” – it was a big adventure for me by the time I was reading it. Just that. That’s why I’m planning on rereading it before getting my hands on the 2nd one. :)

I need to reread The Winner’s Curse too, I’ve been meaning to finish the series! Personally, I think the 2nd and 3rd books of the ToG series are the best but of course I still want to know how it all ends haha.

Definitely Daughter of Smoke and Bone! I really liked Shatter Me also. Pandemonium was great, but I found the last book in the series lackluster.
Oh, definitely Daughter of Smoke and Bone! Laini Taylor’s books are so magical!
The Heist Society is the only one I’ve read but I think it’s worth re-reading. It’s my favourite Ally Carter series (but it was also my first . . .).
