Top Eight New-to-Me Authors I Read In 2018

Posted January 14, 2019 by Jana in Top Ten Tuesday / 32 Comments

So… 2018 was not exactly the best year of reading for me. I didn’t read nearly as many books as I had hoped, and I didn’t branch out as much as I had planned. I tried out quite a few new authors (18 of them!) in 2018, and I didn’t like many of them. lol. So I’m sharing eight new-to-me authors I discovered this year that I really loved and plan to read more from! In parentheses I’m noting which of their books I read last year.

Ellie Cahill (I Temporarily Do and The Designated +1)
Jenna Evans Welch (Love & Gelato and Love & Luck)
Christina Lauren (Roomies and Josh & Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating)
Alice Clayton (Roman Crazy)
Nina Bocci (Roman Crazy)
Morgan Matson (Save the Date)
Sharon Cameron (The Dark Unwinding and A Spark Unseen)
Melanie Cellier (A Dance of Silver and Shadow and A Tale of Beauty and Beast)

Which authors did you discover in 2018?
Which books of theirs made you fall in love with their writing?

That’s great! I’m still slowly adding some historical fiction to my tbr. It’s a genre I’m having a hard time getting into.

It’s very easy to stick to the authors your know. I tend to get comfortable and not branch out. I’m hoping to change that this year. :)

Morgan Matson is the best! Haven’t read the newest one yet but I’ve read all her others in order of publication; her consistent quality is impressive, so I hope you find more of hers to love.

I read my first Christina Lauren book this year too (The House — bit different from what the duo seems to be known for!); it wasn’t outstanding but I am still looking forward to the titles you mentioned.

Save the Date is my only book by her, but I loved it and can’t wait to read more of them! I actually met her at ALA a few years ago and got a copy of Amy and Roger signed by her, o maybe I should read that one next. :)

I need to look up that Christina Lauren novel. I’ve never even heard of it!

  2. I discovered Katherine Center last year after absolutely enjoying How to Walk Away. I eagerly read an ARC of her upcoming book Things You Save in a Fire and bought The Lost Husband for Christmas. She writes characters in their late 20s or early 30s who have relatable experiences and uplifting lessons they learn as they overcome their struggles.

Ooo, I’m going to go look her up! I’m so glad you found a new author you love! That’s always such an exciting thing.

  3. Welch made my list. I was glad I finally read my copy of Love & Gelato, because I loved it, and the companion book too. Clayton is fun, and CLo have been on a hot streak with me this lately. Matson is a go-to for me. Her books have all been wonderful for me.

  4. Wow–I haven’t read ANY of those authors! That’s pretty sad…it’s inspiring me to keep a list though, of my own “new authors” for this year. So far I can add Jane Harper and another author whose name I’ve already forgotten…oh dear. Well, thanks for the great list anyway. I will be sure to add some of these to my hugely bloated TBR list. :)
