The Christmas Songs Book Tag has become a pretty popular feature on my blog each year as part of A Bookish Little Christmas! I created this tag in 2015 and bring it back each year for people to participate in. Because I do this every year, I am limiting my choices to books I’ve read in 2022. I’m also trying to only use one book one time, which will be tricky because this was a great reading year and I found multiple books that I really, really loved. You can do whatever you would like. :)
1. “All I Want for Christmas Is You”: Favorite bookish couple.
Dr. Garrett Gibson and Ethan Ransom from Hello Stranger by Lisa Kleypas. These two are just so, so good. Garrett is the only female physician in England and Ethan is a mysterious spy/assassin/detective and they both love to break rules, push boundaries, and love deeply.
2. “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”: Name a book where a character is away from home (school, vacation, etc.).
Enemies Abroad by R.S. Grey. Noah and Audrey are eighth grade teachers at the same school. They don’t like each other much, although neither really seems to know why, and they both somehow end up being placed in charge of chaperoning the class trip to Rome. Most of the book takes place in Italy and there’s lots of sightseeing. I loved it!
3. “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”: Name your favorite “little” book (children’s book, short story, novella, etc.).
When She Was Naughty by Tessa Dare. Such a fun, festive romance!
4. “Santa Claus is Coming to Town“: What book(s) do you hope Santa brings you this year?
A River Enchanted by Rebecca Ross and House of Breath and Sky by Sarah J. Maas.
5. “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”: Which book turned your nose red (made you cry)?

6. “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year”: Your favorite book/kind of book to read during the holidays.

7. “We Three Kings”: Your favorite trilogy.
I didn’t read a trilogy this year, actually. It’s been the year of series for me. I read The Ravenels, The Hathaways, and The Wallflowers series by Lisa Kleypas this year. The Ravenels was my favorite, by far. I’ve also been re-reading the A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas. The dramatized audiobooks are so fun and I highly recommend them!
8. “Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow”: A character you would love to be snowed in with.
Nathan Donelson from The Cheat Sheet by Sarah Adams. He’s a big romantic teddy bear!
9. “Last Christmas”: A book that seriously let you down.
I have DNFed quite a few books I was super excited about, but I think the most disappointing one for me was An Accidental Odyssey by K.C. Dyer. The first book in this duology(?), Eighty Days to Elsewhere, is one of my favorite books ever but this one was excruciating.
10. “White Christmas”: An upcoming release you’re dreaming about.
The Bride Bet by Tessa Dare! Who knows when this one is actually going to happen, but I can’t wait! I’m also really excited for Sarah Morgenthaler’s next Moose Springs book, which is going to be the first book in a new spin-off series.

The Christmas Book Flood by 
The book begins in Autumn, and the illustrations are sprinkled with fall leaves and pumpkins. I could feel the crisp, fall air. The anticipation of the Christmas Book Flood is palpable and the people walk along the dirt streets in their sweaters by the light of the Norther Light dancing overhead. Then the tradition is explained. The book says that “reading is magic–when you have the right book.” I couldn’t agree more! The books explains how much thought people put into selecting books for their loved ones, which I thought was so sweet. I turned the page to a cozy little village street speckled with bookshops and snowflakes, and my smile grew even larger than it was before. I could hear the crunch of the snow as the people on the pages walk past twinkling lights with their packages in tow after a long day of shopping.
How beautiful is this illustration? I’d love to visit this magical bookshop. The illustrations show a cute little girl searching for the right book, when she finally finds one just in time! Her joy is exquisite, and the page turns to reveal a magical scene from inside her imagination. Hot air balloons, a castle, and a sea monster fill the page. Then we turn the page again to reveal a family opening their gifts together and eating festive baked goods. “They pore over treasures and marvel together: new worlds and adventures, etched across pages bound between covers.” What a pretty line. I was delighted to see how this family celebrates together. They pile the floor by the Christmas tree with pillows and blankets and read together. Even their pets have books! Those who can’t read are perched on the laps of those who read to them instead.
