Welcome to That Artsy Reader Girl! Thanks for popping in. I hope you’ll stay a while. I’m Jana, a 30-something, librarian, singer, graphic designer, art history lover, world traveler, and girl next door.
My love of reading started at a very young age, but then all but disappeared starting in middle school until I graduated high school. I think what intensified it the most, though, was the opportunity I had to teach struggling ESL children how to read. I had not fully understood the power of reading until I saw tears shed over the inability to do so. The glimmer of hope in their eyes, and the small milestones we reached together are what I think of every time I close a book.
This isn’t just a book review blog. This is a place to hang out, make new friends, and discover new and exciting books together. I love YA and adult fiction of all shapes and sizes, and usually if it has romance in it. What’s the point of reading a book if there’s no swoony kissing going on? I do make exceptions for a great mystery or thriller, though. My favorite authors are Tracey Garvis-Graves, Tessa Dare, Mary Higgins-Clark, Jenn Bennett, Sarah J. Maas, and Marissa Meyer. They have earned my trust, and I’ll read anything they write. However, I love to meet new authors and explore all genres if a good book gives me a reason to do so! I know how hard it is to be a successful author, and absolutely love helping to promote authors and their books. If you’d like me to review your book and/or host a giveaway, please read over my review policy to make sure we’re a good fit, and send me an e-mail!
When I’m not curled up with a book, I’m either designing something, putting together a puzzle, obsessively organizing, or doing random things with my family.
P.S. I was a co-blogger at The Broke and The Bookish from the very beginning (June of 2010) until we shut down in January of 2018, so if I seem familiar to you that might be why!
