Can you believe I’ve got 87 books on my Goodreads with the word “snow” in the title? lol

Welcome to another TTT! This week’s topic was submitted by Susan @ Bloggin’ bout Books, and is Bookish Jobs I Would Do For Free (Real or Imaginary). What a fun topic! I picked some real and some imaginary jobs, and had so much fun thinking about all the possibilities. Ideally I’d like to be paid, but some jobs sound like so much fun that I can imagine happily doing them for free if that’s the only option! Shoutout to my little sister for helping me brainstorm!

1. Librarian at the Beast’s Library
Wouldn’t that be so cool?? It’s so beautiful, and filled with so many books. Plus, I’d have fun chatting with the house staff.

2. Reader for GraphicAudio
If you haven’t listened to a GraphicAudio audiobook, you’re missing out. They’re recorded by a full cast and have accompanying sound effects and music. It’s like a movie! I’d love to be a reader for a book I love. Their version of Fourth Wing is coming out later this year, and I’d love to be one of the narrators!

3. Home decorator for my favorite characters
I’m picturing myself traveling to all the opulent, beautiful homes in books I’ve read about and decorating them for Christmas! I will happily trim the tree at the Ravenel family home from my favorite series by Lisa Kleypas.

4. Lisa Kleypas’s publicist
Speaking of Lisa Kleypas… She’s my favorite author, and I know I’d have so much being a fly on the wall for her writing process and getting sneak peaks. Plus, she seems nice!

5. Library/bookstore photographer
Have you ever seen those big fancy coffee table books featuring stunning libraries and bookshops around the world? Send me out to take those pics! A little sightseeing, some amazing travel… It would be a dream.

6. Shop owner at Lovelight Farms
Lovelight Farms (from the book series by B.K. Borrison) is one of my favorite settings! There’s a bakery there and some other fun things, but let me open the quirky little gift shop that sells branded items but also unique gifts like handmade crochet items by yours truly! I’d love to be part of the Lovelight team. They’re all so nice.

7. Caregiver for all the Winnie the Pooh characters
Move over, Christopher Robin, I want to bring all the little cuties to live with me!

8. Book designer for National Geographic
Actually, send me out to photograph all that cool stuff too! But it would be super fun to be in charge of the typography and layout of all those pretty National Geographic books. Put my graphic design degree to use!

9. Travel agent for authors who need to travel for their book research
I will curate the very best adventures for authors who want to visit the settings of their books to get all the important info to write them. Is your book set in Greece? I’ll plan the coolest experiences. Ancient Greece? I’ll rev up my time machine. I love travel so much, so maybe I should also tag along on these trips to make sure everything runs smoothly.

10. Cruise ship librarian
Did you know cruise ships have libraries? They’re mostly very tiny, but you can check out books and sometimes board games! I’ll take on the job of developing the collection, recommending books to people, and enjoying a nice relaxing time at sea during my off hours.

What bookish jobs would you love to have?

Welcome to another TTT! We’ve just begun the last quarter of the year! What bookish goals would you still like to accomplish? If you participated in TTT’s Bookish Goals for 2023 topic this past January, update us on which goals you’ve achieved, which you’ve given up on, and which ones you’re still working on! That’s what I’ve decided to do for this post. I’m copying and pasting my goals from my TTT in January, and providing a little update!

1. Read 60 books this year. 
As of right now I’ve read 48 books so far this year (and I’m partway through 2 more). According to Goodreads, I’m 3 books ahead of schedule. I think I can do it!

2. Get my Netgalley feedback ratio to 80%. 
HAAAAAA. I will keep trying, but my goodness this is hard! I’m in a much better place than in January, but I don’t think I’ll get it to 80% this year.

3. Request and accept fewer books for review.
I have done SO GOOD, but I’ve still accepted more than I should have. LOL

4. Read more backlist titles.
34 of the 48 books I’ve read so far were not published this year. That’s better than I thought! The oldest one I have read was published in 1975.

5. Share my thoughts on every book I read.
Wow. I forgot I endeavored to do this. lol. I’ve been very bad at this! I’m doing it on Goodreads, but not here (although, I started out great this year). I guess I need to flood my blog with reviews between now and the end of the year!

6. Read more books from my bookshelves. 
Mood reader doom right here. As soon as I decided to read more from my shelves, all of those books became very uninteresting to me. I did go through and donate a bunch I’m no longer interested in, though! Does that count? My shelves are now mostly books I’ve read and loved, or books I expect to love.

7. DNF more. 
I am doing AMAZINGLY with this. So far, I have DNFed 51 books. Woohoo!

8. Not try to force my mood.
This is also going great! I’m reading spooky books right now, but I think that mood will be changing soon and I will absolutely stop spooky season reading and move to Christmas books before Halloween if that’s what I’m wanting!

9. Read the books I’m excited about immediately.
I have been reminding myself of this goal all year, and I’ve had the most amazing reading year because of it. I’m not saving books for the opportune moment anymore. If I want to read it right away, I will. I’m currently reading a book that comes out next spring and oh well!

10. Find more books off the beaten path.
I’ve been reading a TON of indie romances this year! I’ll deep dive and find ones nobody has heard of. Some of my favorites this year have been off the beaten path, and I’m so happy about it. I’ve found so many new to me authors!
