Welcome to another TTT! I think my scheduling issues with my posts have been worked out, but I’m not positive yet! I’ve done so, so much testing. This week’s topic is a freebie, which is so much fun but also hard for me since I come up with all the topics and then when a freebie rolls around it’s… just another topic I have to come up with! LOL. But it’s fun for me to see what everyone else comes up with because sometimes I steal those topics for future weeks! If I do that I will, of course, credit you and your creativity. Coming up with new topics can be hard for me after so many years!
I chose to feature super popular books or book series that I feel like everyone in the world has read but me! Here we go!

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
And that’s not for lack of trying! I have tried and failed to finish this book at least 5 times now. But I love every film adaptation I’ve seen.
The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks
And I NEVER will. I’ve seen the movie, and this story is brutal on the feels.
Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
I could potentially be talked into this one. Maybe not.
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James
I’m very sorry, but I will not.

Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
Well, I’ve read the first one because it was required for my children’s lit program in grad school and ended up DNFing the second one because it’s just not my cup of tea. I used to feel like I was majorly missing out, and now I can’t find it in me to care anymore. lol. If I’m missing out, oh well! I just don’t care!
The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkein
But I have seen the movies!
The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
I’ve also read the first one and thought it was lovely, so I just need to make the rest of them a priority.
A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin
I was intrigued for a while and even own the first book, but I’ve since been told (by many trusted friends and family members) that this series might be too much for me. LOL
Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
I was anti-books as a kid, and now I feel like I’ve passed the point in my life where I would even feel the magic everyone talks about. I just don’t think I’d see the appeal having not read them as a child.

I have never read gone with the wind or the lord of the rings. i am caught up with everyone else that is waiting on the sixth book in A song of Ice and Fire. It is very complex and huge and a bunch of name drops of characters who are mentioned once and then never again.
Very interesting! I’m right there with you on all of the single books on the list, though Pride and Prejudice is coming up soon on my TBR, so we’ll see how that goes.
As for the series…I’ve read the HP series, but only just recently, and I left the intended age group for those books behind long ago. They’re not bad, but I don’t get the hype. I recently listened to all of the LoTR books, and I’d say if you’ve seen the movies and like them, but don’t feel inclined to read the books, leave it that way. I’m just getting into the Narnia books myself, and will never read the Martin series. As for the Anne series, the first one is wonderful! But the rest of the series I could pretty much take or leave. (How hilarious that so many popular series have author names with multiple initials in them!)

I don’t think anyone should have to read a book (unless it’s for school or university) they don’t enjoy. If you’ve tried Pride & Prejudice five times, maybe Jane Austen ist not for you (sneef, my favourite author). Have you tried any of her other books? My personal favourite is Persuasion. Northanger Abbey is quite different from her other books, or maybe Emma, again, slightly different from her other stories. But it doesn’t matter, if you’re not into her, you’re not. Enjoy the books you like.
I also like your comment about the series and the authors with several initials in their name. That might be another subject for a TTT?
The only one I read from this list is the Harry Potter series, so I’m with you 9/10! Lol.

Speaking as a huge Anne of Green Gables fan here, they’re definitely better to read when you’re a kid.

I think you’re probably right with Anne of Green Gables. I didn’t read them as a kid either, and when I read the first one a year or two ago I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t as magical and special as my friends who read the series as a kid remember it being.
I haven’t read any of these either. I mean, I’ve tried reading Anne of Green Gables and would still like to get back into it, but I do think it’d be more magical if I’d read it as a child. I have some serious prejudices against Chronicles of Narnia, although these are mainly based on it being heavily Christian-influenced and I’m a Christian now, so maybe I’ll like it.
I was thinking of reading the books before watching Game of Thrones, but now that I’ve watched the show, I don’t plan on going back and trying to read the books. On the other hand, I love Pride & Prejudice, the book, but don’t want to see any of the film adaptations. Lord of the Rings I liked the books and not the movies. The Notebook and Anne of Green Gables I’m skipping book and film for both! I believe in reading for enjoyment or cultural enrichment, but prefer to enjoy my cultural enriching books and try not to feel guilty about unread classics anymore. That said, I have never read Jane Eyre and it seems as though everyone else has and I really should!
Awww Jana, I adore Pride & Prejudice, The Lord of the Rings, Chronicles of Narnia and the Harry Potter books! Get reading them! However I have yet to read Anne of Green Gables too, but hope to rectify that this summer! 😁
I read the Anne Of Green Gables series as an adult. I enjoyed them and loved the PBS series. I am not a big fan of Jane Austen, I did read most of her books,but I can take them or leave them. I did not enjoy The Chronicles Of Narnia.

You’ve never read ANY of these? Wow! You’re missing out :) I’ve read the majority of them (although not, I have to say, 50 SHADES OF GREY). On ANNE OF GREEN GABLES, I actually think it’s a better book for adults than kids. It’s old-fashioned, but it’s a great book. Sweet and funny.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who wouldn’t read Fifty Shades of Grey! I just flat out refuse to! LOL! Also, I love the Harry Potter series and The Chronicles of Narnia! Can’t wait to read Gone With The Wind and Pride and Prejudice!!!
You are not alone! Of your books list, I’ve only read Fifty Shades of Grey (I was curious lol). Of your series list, I’ve only read LOTR and the first three books of ASOIAF. I probably will never read Anne of Green Gables. I’ll read HP and Narnia one day, I’m sure, once my son is older. I feel like there are a ton of books I haven’t read that everyone else has! So yea, definitely not alone!
I’ve been non-COVID sick so didn’t get a post done this week. GWTW is definitely worth it in spite of its obvious flaws. Even in 1936 there were some outraged at some of the racist elements. It remains, though, as the greatest American novel. Don’t skip the dull second Chapter–it is necessary to understand the rest of what goes on. My nieces says Water For Elephants is her favorite ever. In spite of that verdict, she has excellent judgment. I read it and while it was good, it left no lasting hunger for it in me. 50 Shades & Land of Game of Thrones Whatever–no way would I read those! Anne I listened to as an adult. I tried reading the first book and failed so got the audio. Once I got to Book Two I was hooked and listened to every book in the series within that year! (I have a very long commute). HP put me to sleep once the books got to be as big as office blocks.
You are not alone Jana. I have not read any of the series, but have read the first book from Harry Potter and Anne of Green Gables. I have read all but Pride and Prejudice in the singles list though.
