Welcome to another TTT! Can you believe it’s October?? Today’s topic is bookish pet peeves, and I think it’s going to be a lot of fun to commiserate with one another on the things that drive us up the walls! I can’t wait to jump around the Linky and read your lists!
1. Mid-series cover changes.
2. Poor editing/grammar.
3. Cliffhangers I wasn’t expecting or surprise sequels/series.
4. Too stupid to live characters.
5. Lack of communication between characters, so there’s needless drama/catastrophes.
6. Christmas books that don’t have any Christmas in them! When the cover or title is the most festive part of the book, we have a problem.
7. Stiff bindings so it’s hard to hold a book open. I need floppy paperbacks!
8. Gratuitous swear words. Sometimes it’s so often that I can’t even focus on the story!
9. Book descriptions or covers that misrepresent the book’s contents.
10. Poor research into subject matter, such as locations or historical events/time periods.
Lay it on me. What are your bookish pet peeves?

“Gratuitous swear words. Sometimes it’s so often that I can’t even focus on the story!” OHMYGOSH, yes! I need to add this as an edit to my list. This drives me insane, especially as often I feel they just add it for “shock value” and because they can (as secular fiction). Also, cover changes! Ugh. That’s annoying. :)
I hate it when they change covers mid series, too. Ugh!
I agree with your list although we only really overlapped on #10! I did almost include #7 but thought of other things that irritate me even more. I feel like a cranky old woman! :-D
Good choices! A lot of these bug me, too.
I hate pour editing & grammer two 😁
I reckon if you took all the ‘pet peeves’ and collated them (not suggesting you do by the way) you’d find stickers on books would come out top! So many of us dislike them so why do publishers do it?
OOh nice picks! Have a few of the same on my list too! Found that this one wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be once I got going! Lol.
Here’s my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
I think we all share a lot of those pet peeves, I can second all of yours.
If was fun to choose the ones I wanted to underline.
Yes to poor editing/grammar – I understand that sometimes things just get missed, but sometimes there are so many that I’m like, did anyone actually read this?
#9: The book SNOW by John Banville was recommended to Agatha Christie fans and similar but had child S abuse in it!
Love your list. We have some of the same pet peeves. I didn’t even think of the cliffhangers one.
Yes, mid-series cover changes are awful! I included changing the size of the physical book on my list, but the cover changes should have been one I listed, too. It’s so frustrating!
Yes, I agree with all of these. I didn’t think of the cover that misrepresents the book, that one is huge.
One of mine is when a book promises to be “The Next (insert bestselling novel here)”. At worst they disappoint, and at the best they are actually good books but have little to do with the book they promised to be similar to.
Gosh, good list. I agree about the covers even though I know it isn’t supposed to matter. And books that are too stiff to hold.
Now that I am reading yours all mine come up in my brain too. For example
Blond girl in book, brunette on the cover! Gah!
First book in a series but it does not say on the back or anywhere on the book that it is not a stand-alone! Gaaah!
Book marketed as sci-fi but is fantasy or marketed as romance but is relationship and divorce… Double gah!
Right? :-)
To name a few.
I totally agree with so many of these!!!
