Welcome to another TTT! This week’s topic was submitted by Mareli at Elza Reads, and is about typographical book covers. These can be covers with a design that is all or mostly all word-based, covers that have pretty fonts, or just covers that use typography in a creative way. I’m a graphic designer, so this topic speaks to my artistic soul. I LOVE nice fonts and great design/layout, so I’ve decided to showcase book covers with a lovely use of typography that makes the cover extra special.

Take Me Back by Meghan March
This is a simple font, but I love how the “Me” sits right on the horizon line where the water meets the sky. I also love how parts of the typography blend into the scenic surrounding. And the color pops so nicely, too! I love how Meghan March’s name is outlined very subtly in the same green of the water.
A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer
This font is so perfectly chosen for the story (a Beauty and the Beast retelling). I love that some of the letters look like swords, and I love the metallic treatment of the letters. That can be hard to illustrate! And then the way the thorny vines weave in and out? So good.
The Anatomical Shape of a Heart by Jenn Bennett
The way the words all fit so perfectly into a heart shape is just *chef’s kiss*.
Caraval by Stephanie Garber
This is just pretty. The font itself is stunning, but the addition of the ligatures and swirls make quite a statement.
The Last Smile in Sunder City by Luke Arnold
I mean, come on. Look at this. I can’t even talk about it. The way some of the letters run off the page, effectively separating parts of a map is so cool. And the way all the words fit together so perfectly and then the little details on the map themselves? Amazing. There’s so much to look at.
Jana Goes Wild by Farah Heron
Ok, so that’s my name! My name is NEVER in books, much less ON books! But look how cute the font is! I love the woman sitting on the “J” and the giraffe head pocking out of the “d”. And wow, it was a very brave choice to make such a significant drop-shadow, but to ALSO make it 100% opaque AND put a gradient on it? Brave. And it works for me. I love this.
The Hike by Susi Holliday
I feel similarly about this cover as I do the Meghan March cover I mentioned earlier. This is so, so simple but I love how the “The” is rising up from behind the mountain and then how “Hike” is rising out of the water. It just pleases me.
The Highland Fling by Meghan Quinn
I love the plaid. Love it.
The Orphan of Cemetery Hill by Hester Fox
Ok. This is a great example of what a good font can do for you. This font, while simple, is beautiful. The structure and the elements are stunning. And then… not much is done to it. It’s white. There’s a lot of leading. The choice of using all-caps at times and regular lowercase/uppercase at times and the italics creates such a simple and elegant composition. I kid you not, I zoomed in to get a better look at the font and THEN I realized there are headstones back there. The font all on its own grabbed me, and it was all I saw.
Not Like the Movies by Kerry Winfrey
This is just so much fun. We’ve got a chaotic mix of different fonts, colors, and font treatments, but all rolled together it works. Super whimsical and fun!
When you think of a book cover that has great typography,
which is the first one that comes to your mind?

Great list of gorgeous typographic covers. Caraval and A Curse So Dark and Lonely almost made my list too. Me too, I love typographic covers, so I can’t wait to read everyone’s picks for this week’s fun prompt.

Have a great week :)
I love a good cover with use of texture, color or models. But types should get their fair shout-out, too! :)
They are great covers!
Have a good week.

Kicking myself for some how forgetting Caraval! This is what happens when I have to keep those books in another room away from my computer and adding the fact that I have so many different covers that somehow the original US one just escaped my mind!
Here’s my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!

Hi there Jana!
As a graphic designer, I think you must love typography! Excellent choices you have today.
Thanks so much for picking our topic! We always have so much fun with TTT.
Have a great Tuesday!
The Anatomical Shape of a Heart is a perfect pick for this week!
The Anatomical Shape of a Heart is so pleasing to look at. ^.^ Great choice!
What a fun list. My favorite is The Anatomical Shape of a Heart
I love all of those covers. This was a challenge for me because I’m so used to looking at pictures on the cover. Thanks for the challenge to look at book covers from a different perspective. I enjoyed searching for ones that fit my genre of choice (cozy mysteries). :-)
I love the covers for The Anatomical Shape of a Heart, Caraval, and The Last Smile in Sunder City – enough so that I’m looking the books up!
I really like the cover for Take Me Back. Have a great week!
Oh really neat! I love the one with the heart, and I also have a heart one in my list!
These are all fun, but I think the SUNDER CITY one is my fave. It’s eye-catching and just cool. I love it!
Happy TTT!

These were fun picks! I wouldn’t have thought of this idea for a list, but it really has me thinking…
