Top Ten (Nine) Best and Worst Series Enders

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted over at the other blog I write for, The Broke and the Bookish.

I’m really bad at finishing series, and I’m not sure why. It might be that I either hated the first one, so reading the rest are pointless (Halo, Glimmerglass) … or it could be that I love the series so much that I’m scared to finish it (Requiem)… or the ending is not out yet (Of Neptune, Ruin and Rising, Infinite)… or I’m really invested in series that are still so new that book #2 hasn’t even been released. Regardless, most of the series enders I’ve read have been major disappointments for me. I think that why I have a hard time sticking with a book series. I was able to come up with a few, but I could not make it to ten this time!

Endings

The Forgotten Locket by Lisa Mangum
Into the Still Blue by Veronica Rossi
Emerald Green by Kerstin Gier

actualendings

Hidden by Sophie Jordan
Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins
Forever by Maggie Stiefvater
Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer
Tempest Revealed by Tracy Deebs
Otherwise Engaged by Suzanne Brockman

Clearly, I have bad luck with series. My favorite ending is actually Into the Sill Blue, which I just finished last week. It’s amazing! I’d love to know what other series out there end wonderfully, so I can read those series! Please link me to your posts, and leave me some recommendations!

  1. I liked Forever by Stiefvater but I agree with you about Mockingjay. Do you think if we begged she would rewrite it and do it better?

Oh, I would beg and beg until the cows come home! Haha! It’s worth a try, right? Even an alternate ending would satisfy me.

  2. I couldn’t agree more re: your inclusion of Mockingjay. The Hunger Games is one of the few series I’ve read to completion, and while I absolutely adored the first two instalments for a variety of reasons, I thought the final novel in the series was a bitter disappointment. Peeta was always an important part of the novel for me, and his characterization and development in Mockinjay really detracted from my overall enjoyment of the story :( It’s a shame that the series was left on a relatively sour note as I otherwise have nothing but positive feelings about both The Hunger Games and Catching Fire (Particularly the latter, which was my favourite!)

  3. If a series is REALLY good, I have to finish it or if my friends push me to finish it like Twilight. But if the first book is okay or the series starts to fizzle out and/or become repetitious, I tend to stop reading them e.g. Gallagher Girls.

  4. I’m so excited for Into the Still Blue!! I am so in love with that series and can’t wait to see how it finishes up! V Rossi is awesome though, so I have no doubts!!
I wasn’t a huge fan of the Mockingjay ending either…

  5. I can’t wait to read Into the Still Blue! So glad to see so much positive feedback already!
I actually liked Breaking Dawn hahaha. I just really liked seeing the vampire side of it! I’m sure people are seeing my TTT and laughing at my right now LOL

  6. Excellent list. I had totally forgotten about the Lisa Mangum series. I read the first book and just haven’t gotten around to the rest. It’s great to know it ends well though!

  7. Oh, Breaking Dawn. I can’t even remember reading Breaking Dawn, probably because it was so bad, haha. As for Mockingjay, that’s always a funny one. Everyone is so split down the middle in terms of liking it. I loved it, but I can definitely see why other people disliked it as much as they did.

On a separate note, I seriously need to start reading Under the Never Sky and Ruby Red~

  8. Funny, I just talked with my friends yesterday about how the ending of Mockingjay disappointed us. Hunger Games was okay and Catching Fire ended like a BAM! to your heart but then with Mockingjay, it was blah. Especially with the death of our two favorite secondary characters :(

  9. Lindsey V.

I actually liked Breaking Dawn. I know I’m of the minority on this one, but I enjoyed it. The Twilight series is one of my all-time favorite series books that I have read.

    Thank you for the post!
