Welcome to another TTT! Spooky season is upon us, and I love reading spooky, mysterious, atmospheric books during this time. They can be very hard to come by because I’m a chicken and also I don’t love super dark storylines. I like a little chill, not being terrified. So here’s my list of books that fit the bill!

I’d love recs for similar books if you have any!
I started Rebecca but didn’t finish it. I also read one of Joanna’s books (her first I think) but don’t remember a great deal about it. Maybe I should read more someday. :)
Rebecca was a bucket list read for me because my mom loved it as a teen! We both read it together a few years ago and that made it really fun. If I hadn’t been reading it with her, though, I might have abandoned it before finishing. I struggled with it a bit.
Oh, so that’s what you meant by atmospheric reads. Oops! I looked at cosy reads and didn’t think I could do this one, so I picked a topic from the archives. Boy, do I feel like a dunce lol.
Oh no, I’m sorry! Sometimes I try to make a topic quite vague so people can interpret it however they want. I like the variety of lists that people write up in situations like this. Yes! Do you have any book recommendations that fit this criteria? I’m looking for something spooky, but that won’t keep me up at night and nothing is grabbing me at the moment.
The Dead Boxes Archive by John F Leonard are mild horror, more creepy than horror and a series of short stories, which worked for me.

These look good and perfect for spooky season. I don’t like anything too scary. The Silent Companions is probably as far as I would go. The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St James was also quite spooky 😂 it took me by surprise.
The Only One Left and Rebecca are on my want to read list.

The Silent Companions is on my to-read list! I’m hoping to get to it this month, but October is FLYING. The Book of Cold Cases was too much for me and I had to stop. :’) The Only One Left is a favorite, for sure. I read it in the dark laying in bed and was still able to sleep, so you should be ok! lol
I can’t believe how fast the month is going! I have a Blog Tour on 31 October and I realised that that is in 10 days time 😱
The Silent Companions is quite a lot. The most frightening thing I think is that they actually existed!
That’s good that you could read it in the dark. It doesn’t take much to make me jump. Luckily my kids get into the bed throughout the night so they keep all the scary monsters away 😂
OOh nice picks! Some new to me ones but I do have St. James’ book on my TBR pile! These definitely look like they have that atmospheric vibe going on!

Not going to lie, I *STRUGGLED* with this prompt lol. I just did my top ten cozy reads/movies. Ones I can see me curling up on a stormy night in a plush blanket with candles lit..
I haven’t read any of these specific books, so I’m not sure I could give you that good a recommendation, but I do also love a good “scary” short story anthology. I seem to be able to handle horror better in short bites instead of full novels!
