Top Ten Halloweeny Things I’ve Never Done

Posted October 27, 2025 by Jana in About Me, Top Ten Tuesday / 24 Comments

Welcome to another TTT! In honor of Halloween being this Friday, this week’s topic is a Halloween freebie! I thought it would be fun to share ten Halloweeny things I’ve never done before! Spoiler alert: almost all of the things on my list are there because I am a scared and anxious person. lol. I love Halloween for the pumpkins, the spoopy (cute spooky fun, not spooky scary) vibes, and the candy. I can’t wait to see what topic you came up with, so I’ll be visiting many blogs this week!

1. I’ve never bobbed for apples.
Even as a child, I guess my fear of germs was strong. Or maybe my fear of drowning? lol.

2. I’ve never gone to a “haunted” attraction.
I’d probably die if a went to a haunted house, haunted corn maze, haunted hay ride, etc. I almost died on the Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland, so it’s just never going to happen.

3. I’ve never gone to a real haunted place either, like an old house or hotel known for ghost sightings or a spooky town ghost tour.
Truthfully, that would be a million times worse than a fake haunted place!

4. I’ve never gone apple picking.
Now this, I would do. This sounds like a lot of fun! I see no reason to be afraid of an apple orchard unless it’s haunted or has a major bug infestation.

5. I’ve never had a pumpkin spice flavored beverage.
I don’t drink coffee, so it’s not like I’m against the PSL because it’s pumpkin spice. I actually love pumpkin spice, just only in baked goods.

6. I’ve never gone to a murder mystery dinner.
In theory, this could be fun… but my friends know my very well and would do what they could to scare me at least 10 times. lol. These are the friends who sat me in the middle of the couch, covered me with blankets and pillows, surrounded me with their bodies (for protection, naturally), and then watched me watch a scary movie (it was What Lies Beneath, for those wondering. I do not recommend it if you enjoy sleep at all.).

7. I’ve never read a horror novel.
I mean, I’ve read scary books, but my threshold for scary reads is so below average that pretty much nobody I know would think I’ve read a scary book.

8. I’ve never told ghost stories by flashlight.
It will just never happen. Ghost stories keep me up at night no matter how outlandish they might sound.

9. I’ve never participated in a séance.
It’s too scary! I won’t even look in the mirror in the dark because I’m scared Bloody Mary will show up uninvited.

10. I’ve never used a Ouija Board
I will not be inviting that energy into my house, no thank you!

So basically, I’m a major chicken. I’m scared of my own shadow or if the toast pops up out of the toaster before I’m ready. I’m scared of little noises. I’m scared of no noises. I’m really just here to find out when I can start decorating for Christmas.

Ok, so give it to me. I’m excited to hear who is just like me and who thinks
I haven’t actually lived yet without doing some of these things!

What is your number one favorite thing to do at Halloween?

  1. I’ve been to an apple orchard but never picked apples on an orchard. We have apple threes (just one now) so I guess picking them at home has been enough. I’ve also had a PSL drink, but I too haven’t done any of these things and probably the “creepiest” thing I’ve done is watch a sort-of-but-probably-not-really creepy movie. ;)

  2. I’d say I’ve done maybe half? I’m a bit of a chicken myself at times. I won’t do the haunted houses where people jump out at you. I’m more like to punch someone for doing that. Lol. Better for all if I just don’t go, but I do love touring haunted houses! I like learning the history behind the hauntings and such. Not a coffee person either so PSL season means nothing to me although I also like pumpkin baked goods! Never done a seance or Oujia board either as I’m too scared the spirits won’t leave after the “conversation” or if we even communicate with a “good” spirit. I’m like, that’s too risky, let’s not call them to us! I feel the same with mirrors and the dark too. If I get up in the middle of the night I either turn a low light on in the bathroom or just keep my eyes closed! Lol. And while I will avoid scary movies like the plague, I will pick up a scary book if it sounds interesting enough! Lol. I feel like I can tone down the scary so I’m not visualizing it as terrifyingly as it’s meant to be!

    Here’s my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower :)

  3. I bobbed for apples as a kid and have been like “Yeah, no, not again” ever since. I was INVITED to a murder mystery dinner and wanted to go, but it was down in New Orleans which was too much of a drive that weekend. :(

  4. I am at 6 out of 10 for things off of your list that I have never done. I have been to a haunted attraction, I have tried a pumpkin spice drink, i have read a horror novel and I have told ghost stories by flashlight.

  5. As someone who also hates scary things, I don’t blame you for not going into any haunted attraction or place. I did go through a haunted house few years ago and it was literally the worst thing and I hated every second of it. The only reason I wasn’t scared during a haunted hay ride one time was because I was with a friend who was more scared than me so I had to be brave for her. Haha!

And I also don’t have memory of apple bobbing or apple picking, though it’s possible I’ve done it. I never liked the idea of dunking my head in water and biting into something. No thank you!

But I’m with you on the idea that I like pumpkins and slightly spooky but actually cute things, but anything scary or grotesque is not for me!

  6. I might have bobbed for apples in kindergarten or something? I’m not sure. It sounds so icky now! I think there’s a pumpkin spice chai latte now, so that might be worth trying if you’re more of a chai latte person. I haven’t done most of the things on your list, either. Would totally go apple picking, but that would have to be a vacation event, as I don’t live in an apple-growing region. I used to be 100% anti-horror novels, but they’ve really grown on me in recent years. No shade– it’s so not worth losing sleep/having nightmares if reading horror isn’t for you! :) Great topic!

  7. Goodness, we are almost polar opposites :-) I’ve done everything on your list except for #6. It’s all good though, the world would be quite boring if we all enjoyed the same things.

  8. I’ve never gone to a haunted house either, and have no desire to go! Apple picking, though, I would highly recommend! I’m lucky to live near a fair amount of farms with apple picking, but it feels like it’s gotten much more popular and expensive these last few years, so I’d recommend picking somewhere more out of the way, or going at a less popular time, if you can!

  9. I love this so much. What a fun post. Let’s see — I bobbed for apples — it is harder to catch one than you think; I was taken to a haunted house by my friends older sister and it scarred me for life; I’ve been in a creepy house but I doubt it was haunted; I have an apple tree, so I have picked apples but not from an orchard; Hmm, have I had a Pumpkin latte? Can’t remember; I’ve never gone to a mystery dinner either; I tend to not read horror either, though when I do, I often don’t find them very horrific, so maybe I’ve not read the hard-care horror either; no seances for me, do people still do that?; and yes my friends and I played around with a ouija board…super fakey!

  10. I’ve never bobbed for apples, either. As a kid I was too worried about getting water up my nose (and/or making a fool of myself) and as an adult I’m not interested in the germs.

I have been to a murder mystery dinner, though! It was amusing, but a lot of the enjoyment depends on the quality of the plot. (And if it’s a professional one, the quality of the actors.)

  11. Such a fun topic! I love it. I’m pretty wimpy and I’ve never been big on Halloween (although I do like eating candy and seeing cute kids in fun costumes). I’ve done a lot of these things, but I’ve never touched a ouija board (no thanks) or participated in a seance either. I also don’t drink coffee (or tea), so I’ve also never had a pumpkin-spiced drink. I do like pumpkin-flavored baked goods, though.

    Happy TTT and Happy Halloween!

  12. What a fun topic choice! I actually have done most of these at some point or another. The “haunted house” I went to was actually pretty tame; it was part of the Halloween party/event that my church’s youth group threw one year when I was a child. That’s also when I bobbed for apples. I’ve taken a ghost tour, I’ve used a Ouija board (never again!), I have had ghost stories told to me around a campfire (better than flashlights!), I’ve gone apple picking, and drunk pumpkin spice tea, I’ve never done a murder mystery dinner where the guests participate, but I have attended several Agatha Christie plays at regional dinner theaters, and I wouldn’t object to a murder mystery dinner if I got the chance. About the only two I haven’t done at all are a seance (no thank you) and reading a horror novel (like you, that’s a definite “nope, never gonna do it.”) I have read a few horror short stories, though; they made us read “The Fall of the House of Usher” and “The Telltale Heart” in school. [shudder]

I think the only ones I haven’t done are

Hello, I’ve enjoyed reading through your blog. I’m with you on all but number 5 – I believe I have had a pumpkin spice flavored tea. It was not good. The scent is nice – the flavor a bit overpowering.

Good memory! I did change it a little–subtracted a bit, added a bit… but it is very similar overall to the original list. lol. Thank you for visiting!
