So… I’m Barely Staying Afloat

As I’m sure you’ve noticed, things have been a little sparse over here at That Artsy Reader Girl. It’s not for lack of trying, I assure you! I am unbelievably busy this semester, plus I’ve had some health issues so things are really stressful right now. Many of you probably remember my post with all the titles for my YA literature class this semester. I’m a really slow reader, so all my non-paper-writing time is spent frantically reading as fast as I can. I’m seriously drowning!

So, I’m making my official “things will be a little slow for a little while” announcement. The Debut Author Challenge is not changing at all. The link-ups, Debut Dish posts, and giveaways will go on as scheduled. You just might see fewer reviews, discussions, and Top Ten Tuesday posts until May when the semester ends. I’m all over Twitter, so come see me there if you’re just not getting enough Jana in your life. :)

Wish me luck!

  1. I totally understand! It’s hard in college! I’m in grad school (getting my MA in Creative Writing) and I can’t tell you how much I am constantly reading for class. I feel like I’m so behind. But hang in there! You’re doing great!

Hi Amanda! Yes, it’s super hard with all the reading! I’m also in grad school (getting my master’s in library and information science), and the reading is crazy! I should have expected it taking a literature class and all, but my goodness! Last week I had to read I’ll Give You the Sun, The House of the Scorpion, and The Family Romanov. That’s in addition to all the scholarly articles and textbooks. And that’s just one class! Phew! Luckily it’s good reading, but still! I’m slow. Haha. I think it would be odd if we didn’t feel behind! You hang in there, too. :) Good luck with school, and thanks for the pep talk!

  2. College is tough..school before blog was my motto while I was trying my hand at college so we totally understand. Good luck with your studies. :)

Thanks, Stormi! I was no longer a student when I started my blog, and then decided to go back for a Master’s a couple years ago. I had no idea how difficult it would be to run the blog at the same time! I think back to my creative posts and can’t wait until I graduate next year and can do it again!

  3. Best of luck. Grad school was one of the best times of my life. It’s so challenging but so rewarding. When the semester finishes up will you give us a recap of the books you picked for the YA class and what you thought about them? I’d love to know.

Thanks, JoLee! Right now I’m only seeing the challenging part of grad school, but I know I will be so happy I did it! I will certainly recap the semester of books! Thanks for the idea. :)

  4. I’m a slow reader too. I totally envy people that can read 200 book per year because WOW!!! Good luck with your classes and I’ll read your posts when you have time to write them :)

RIGHT!? I struggle to hit 70 a year! I don’t know how they all do it! Thanks for your good luck wishes. :) And thanks for reading my posts when they do pop up. Haha. :P

  5. Oh friend, I feel you. I started working full time two weeks ago, plus I’m still trying desperately to keep my blog alive, go to class, do all that reading, keep my freelance business going, deal with my parents having just moved 15 minutes away, my mom’s health continuing to fail/her denial of that failure, etc, etc, etc. It’s all getting to be too much.
