We’ve all come to expect that the trilogies we love might possibly get new covers. It’s kind of a thing that happens. I’m usually not ok with it. I was not happy when Stephanie Perkins’s Anna and the French Kiss companion books were redesigned, I hate the new covers for The Winner’s Curse trilogy by Marie Rutkoski, and redesigning the covers of the Ruby Red trilogy by Kerstin Gier is a downright sin.
The Delirium trilogy has been redesigned three times now. I loved Delirium‘s original cover, especially on the hardback because removing the dust jacket gives you more cover detail of the woman’s face.
I’m not the biggest fan anymore (what can I say? Tastes change). But I like it much better than the “random girl on the cover” syndrome we have been exposed to with the most recent cover redesign.

Boy, did I hate these. At least the original cover stood out from the crowd. These ones look so generic and weird (who shoves flowers in their faces like this?), plus the model looks like she can only make one facial expression: “I’m going to seduce you with my slightly separated lips and my bedroom eyes,” which doesn’t even make sense because love is outlawed in this trilogy. To be honest, I’ve always loved random girls on covers because I like to picture my own characters, thank you very much.

But now… LOOK at this re-design. I love them! I want to re-buy these books with these covers, and this rarely happens to me! But these are so pretty! I love the minimalist design and the colors and the symbolism. SO great. I can see adults, teens, boys, girls, etc. reading these whereas the older covers make the series look so juvenile and geared towards girls. This is so much better, and I can see the trilogy popping back up on everyone’s radar as a result of these new covers. And the novella covers are pretty great too.

So! What do you think of these new covers? What do you think of cover changes in general? Do you usually like the change? Do you get mad having to re-buy books so your covers match? Do you care at all? Let me know in the comments!

I only own one book of the Delirium series in physical form, and I was going to buy the rest of the series soon, but I think I might wait for these editions to come out because they are gorgeous!
They are SO pretty! I own the series, but they don’t match… I have the original Delirium cover, the Pandemonium ARC, and the Requiem hardback and they look awful together. lol. I’m seriously considering buying these ones to replace them with!
I saw them at BEA this week and was like !!!!!!!!! LOVE!!!!! I love minimalist! And they’re SO much better than the girl with fall flowers… although it wouldn’t be hard to top that. These and Panic are the only Lauren Oliver books I haven’t read…. so I’m definitely down to buy these new covers bc I must read alllllll the Lauren Oliver!
BAHHH. So jealous you went to BEA! Definitely read these beautiful books with their beautiful covers! I really loved them, and kind of want to re-read now!
I definitely wasn’t a fan of the girl face covers and hahaha to the facial expressions XD I agree that these new ones are gorgeous!
Hehe. Seriously on the facial expressions, though! :P Yay for a much better cover set! I’m hoping this is a sign of the end of the “random girl on cover” phase! I’ve been waiting for this day!
I haven’t read Delirium, but purely from a visual perspective I quite like the redesigned covers! From what I know about the series, it seems like their well-suited.
These are so much better than the random model with flowers. The hearts make so much for sense for this series.
They totally do! I love the heart theme.
I love the redesign. Huge, huge improvement. They are stunning.
Me too, me too! I really want to buy these!
I was so upset, because I waited 4 years, 4 years, to buy these books, hoping that they would redesign those annoying flower covers. But I finally gave in to buying them, only to find out a week later that they were coming out with these gorgeous covers. I’m just -_-
NO!!! Oh, how frustrating! I’m so sorry to hear this.
Found this post because the girls on the covers are so ugly I searched for it on the internet. I wondered if anyone else disliked them as much as I do. They have zero connection to the story. It’s like a committee who didn’t read the books tried to come up with a cover they think someone will buy, but they have no sense whatsoever of their audience. Yuck. Just yuck.
Reading that I realize it sounds like I’m saying the girls are ugly, which wasn’t what I meant. I meant the cover design is ugly.
