So this fun little topic came through on the TTT topic submission form, and I’ve actually had a lot of fun with this one! We all see the trends that come and go regarding book title structures and word choices. I spent a lot of time searching the books I’ve added to Goodreads and came up with this list of commonly used words in YA book titles. The number next to each word tells how many YA books I’ve added to Goodreads that have that word in the title. And these are just the ones I added. There are like a million others. lol.

This was SUCH a fun topic, Jana, and I like how you spun it. I had a hard time coming up with ten one word, but I think this was more owing to the fact that I was “last minute” (or I felt like it was) putting the topic together. :)

I twisted the topic just a little and focused on cover images instead of words for Holocaust books.
I’d love to say I’m surprised at just how many YA books use your words, but I’m not, although seeing them all listed like that is kind of interesting.

There are so many titles with “girl” (and that’s the one I used) but I’m surprised how many “blood”s there are! I seem to like titles with “blue” or “queen” in them for some reason. This has been a fun topic this week!

I focused on the frequently used words in my historical fiction titles and we share the words: queen and shadow. :-)
It’s kind of odd how often the word smoke turns up in YA fiction titles. Weird!

I went with romance books for this list, but I didn’t even think to list how many of each were on my Goodreads shelves! That’s a fun addition to the list. And this was a really fun topic! :)

Blood and Daughter are everywhere and would have been perfect for my YA fantasy list. I can’t believe I forgot them. I think blue may be the most common color used in a title. All the other colors are jealous.
