Posted November 6, 2023 by Jana in Top Ten Tuesday / 13 Comments

Welcome to another TTT! Do yourself a favor and do not get sick this season. lol. Wear a mask, stay away from people, etc. I am still recovering from getting sick 2.5 weeks ago, and I’ve never felt older or more feeble in my life. I’m supposed to be better now! I’m not supposed to be dizzy and dealing with insomnia and feeling so weak and worn out. The cough is mostly gone, and the fever, body pain, and night sweats are gone. But these last few remaining yuckies are preventing me from feeling good and having fun. So please take care of yourself!

On to today’s topic, which was submitted by Cathy @ What Cathy Read Next: Book Titles That Would Make Great Newspaper Headlines. Fun, right? Thank you for submitting this topic, Cathy! I had a lot of fun scanning my shelves and looking for titles that fit this topic. There’s a lot of ways to interpret this topic, depending on the kinds of books you read, so make it your own!

1. The Only One Left by Riley Sager
2. The Last Bookshop in London by Madeline Martin
3. A Hope at the End of the World by Sarah Lark
4. Silent Victim by Caroline Mitchell
5. Finding Lady Enderly by Joanna Davidson Politano
6. Miracle on 5th Avenue by Sarah Morgan
7. The Cinderella Murder by Mary Higgins Clark
8. Murder Road by Simone St. James
9. The Three Lives of Alix St. Pierre by Natasha Lester
10. The Traitor Beside Her by Mary Anna Evans

Which books did you select for your list this week?

Top Ten Orange & Black Book Covers

Posted October 30, 2023 by Jana in Top Ten Tuesday / 17 Comments

Welcome to another TTT! I wanted to thank everyone for your well wishes last week. I am still pretty sick, but making a little headway and hoping to be back on my feet soon. I didn’t want to miss this Halloween freebie week, though, so I’m doing a simple topic that doesn’t take a lot of thought. All I’m doing is scrolling through my Goodreads and picking out the books that have black and/or orange book covers and throwing them into this post. Super easy, super mindless.

In the Weeds by B.K. Borison
The Huntress by Kate Quinn
The Honeymoon Crashers by Christina Lauren
Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant
The Martian by Andy Weir

Moonlight Seduction by Jennifer L. Armentrout
The Governess Game by Tessa Dare
Stolen by Lucy Christopher
Truth or Tequila by Donna Schwartze
Murder Road by Simone St. James

I hope you have a happy and safe Halloween!

Top Ten Tuesday Link-up – October 24, 2023

Welcome to another TTT! I’m am currently sick with covid, so I will not be writing up a list for today’s prompt: Atmospheric Books. The Novelry explains this concept as: “A novel feels atmospheric when the setting and the narrative are deeply involved with one another; when characters and plot are physically embedded in their surroundings, and a near-tangible mood lifts from the pages and wraps itself around the reader.” Study.com explains that, “The atmosphere is how a writer constructs their piece to convey feelings, emotions, and mood to the reader. The atmosphere in literature might be tense, fast-paced, mysterious, spooky, whimsical, or joyful and can be found in poetry, stories, novels, and series.”

I’m excited to read through your lists!

Top Ten Books with Weather-Related Words in the Title

Posted October 16, 2023 by Jana in Top Ten Tuesday / 14 Comments

Welcome to another TTT! This week’s topic is all about weather! What books have you read/do you want to read that have weather-related words in the title or on the cover image? Words/images like storm, rain, blizzard, flood, lightning, hail, snow, wind, etc. all count for this! If you’re feeling stumped, search your TBR by some of the keywords from the full weather glossary by the National Weather Service! I didn’t let myself duplicate words, but you’re more than welcome to!

A Garden in the Rain by Lynn Kurland
Sleigh Bells in the Snow by Sarah Morgan
The Blizzard Bride by Susanne Dietze
A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas
When Lightning Strikes by Brenda Novak
What the Wind Knows by Amy Harmon
Cold-Hearted Rake by Lisa Kleypas
The Hurricane Wars by Thea Guanzon
Any Duke in a Storm by Amalie Howard
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

Can you believe I’ve got 87 books on my Goodreads with the word “snow” in the title? lol

Top Ten Bookish Jobs I Would do For Free

Posted October 9, 2023 by Jana in Top Ten Tuesday / 16 Comments

Welcome to another TTT! This week’s topic was submitted by Susan @ Bloggin’ bout Books, and is Bookish Jobs I Would Do For Free (Real or Imaginary). What a fun topic! I picked some real and some imaginary jobs, and had so much fun thinking about all the possibilities. Ideally I’d like to be paid, but some jobs sound like so much fun that I can imagine happily doing them for free if that’s the only option! Shoutout to my little sister for helping me brainstorm!

1. Librarian at the Beast’s Library
Wouldn’t that be so cool?? It’s so beautiful, and filled with so many books. Plus, I’d have fun chatting with the house staff.

2. Reader for GraphicAudio
If you haven’t listened to a GraphicAudio audiobook, you’re missing out. They’re recorded by a full cast and have accompanying sound effects and music. It’s like a movie! I’d love to be a reader for a book I love. Their version of Fourth Wing is coming out later this year, and I’d love to be one of the narrators!

3. Home decorator for my favorite characters
I’m picturing myself traveling to all the opulent, beautiful homes in books I’ve read about and decorating them for Christmas! I will happily trim the tree at the Ravenel family home from my favorite series by Lisa Kleypas.

4. Lisa Kleypas’s publicist
Speaking of Lisa Kleypas… She’s my favorite author, and I know I’d have so much being a fly on the wall for her writing process and getting sneak peaks. Plus, she seems nice!

5. Library/bookstore photographer
Have you ever seen those big fancy coffee table books featuring stunning libraries and bookshops around the world? Send me out to take those pics! A little sightseeing, some amazing travel… It would be a dream.

6. Shop owner at Lovelight Farms
Lovelight Farms (from the book series by B.K. Borrison) is one of my favorite settings! There’s a bakery there and some other fun things, but let me open the quirky little gift shop that sells branded items but also unique gifts like handmade crochet items by yours truly! I’d love to be part of the Lovelight team. They’re all so nice.

7. Caregiver for all the Winnie the Pooh characters
Move over, Christopher Robin, I want to bring all the little cuties to live with me!

8. Book designer for National Geographic
Actually, send me out to photograph all that cool stuff too! But it would be super fun to be in charge of the typography and layout of all those pretty National Geographic books. Put my graphic design degree to use!

9. Travel agent for authors who need to travel for their book research
I will curate the very best adventures for authors who want to visit the settings of their books to get all the important info to write them. Is your book set in Greece? I’ll plan the coolest experiences. Ancient Greece? I’ll rev up my time machine. I love travel so much, so maybe I should also tag along on these trips to make sure everything runs smoothly.

10. Cruise ship librarian
Did you know cruise ships have libraries? They’re mostly very tiny, but you can check out books and sometimes board games! I’ll take on the job of developing the collection, recommending books to people, and enjoying a nice relaxing time at sea during my off hours.

What bookish jobs would you love to have?
