Top Ten Books My Mom Loves

Posted April 16, 2018 by Jana in About Me, Top Ten Tuesday / 80 Comments

This week I gave you the opportunity to come up with your own topic. I love doing this because then I can visit all the participating blogs and steal your ideas!! Haha, just kidding. That’s not totally the reason. I always get requests for really specific topics that I can’t broaden enough to make them apply to everyone who wants to participate, such as “top ten science fiction books” or “top ten books to read if you liked [insert book title here]”. Not everyone can do those kinds of topics and then they would have to sit out that week. So this week you get to do whatever you want!

Today’s my mom’s birthday, and since she’s my favorite person in the world I figured I’d share with you some of the books she’s read and loved, both as a child and an adult, and recommended to me throughout my life.

To my first and favorite follower:

The Bobbsey Twins by Laura Lee Hope
Cherry Ames, Student Nurse by Helen Wells
Racoons Are the Brightest People by Sterling North
The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough
Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
Sacajawea by Anna Lee Waldo
The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom
Mary Higgins-Clark (all her books)
Virgin River by Robyn Carr (The entire Virgin River series)
Summer at Willow Lake by Susan Wiggs (The entire Lakeshore Chronicles series)

Have you read any of these books?
Which books do your mom or dad recommend to you all the time?
What topic did you come up with this week?

      Thank you!

I’ve only heard wonderful things about the Susan Wiggs series, so I’m definitely wanting to read it soon. I love the topic you chose for this week! Endpapers can be so pretty.

  1. Aw, that’s a cool way to do this week! And happy birthday to your mom! My mom had the Thorn Birds too, I remember that cover! I know I’ve seen that Sacajawea cover somewhere too. And the Bobbsey Twins and all those old classics… I love seeing those in antique shops, I’m always tempted to buy em for display.

I’ve been wanting to read it since I was a kid because my mom loved it so much. I finally bought a used copy last week!

  2. Happy birthday to your mom!!

I’ve read The Thorn Birds and loved it! I want to read Sacajawea by Anna Lee Waldo.

My mom doesn’t read many books, but she did read and recommend The Wisdom of Sundays by Oprah Winfrey to me.

My topic for this week’s TTT post is ” Books by Authors I Don’t Plan to Read in the Future”.

      Thank you!

I want to read The Thorn Birds and Sacajawea as well. I watch the Thorn Birds mini series with my mom when I was a kid, and I’ve been meaning to get to the book forever.

I like your topic choice. :)

Thank you! Your topic is a great idea as well. We’ll be doing hyped books for TTT in the coming months. :)

Gone With the Wind is soooo long that I’m totally intimidated. lol. How funny that you have three copies of The Thornbirds! Maybe it’s time to read one of them. :P

      Thank you!

Thank you! I found a Kindle bundle of a bunch of the Bobbsey Twins books. I’m excited to read them and see why they’re so great. :)

Gone With the Wind is SO long. It’s kind of crazy!

Wow, you’ve read GWTW multiple times?? I’m impressed! It’s huge!

I did enjoy Richard Chamberlain in the mini series. :)

      Thank you!

  3. Happy birthday to your mum! My mum doesn’t read very often these days because she’s glued to her phone (I call her a teenager to tease her, haha) but she does like to read Philippa Gregory’s books because she’s very interested in the Tudor period of English history. My dad, however, tends to read non-fiction books but when he does read fiction it’s either Superman comics from the 50’s and 60’s or the original James Bond books :)

  5. Happy birthday to your mom! What a great tribute to your mom this week. My mom would have several of these on her list as well. I swear she has a Cherry Ames in the basement somewhere!

  6. My Dad doesn’t read anything without pictures!! And my mum hasn’t managed to finish a book in years. And my brother doesn’t go anywhere near books! I’m the only reader in the house.
