Feedburner Email Subscriptions Ending In July 2021

Posted June 20, 2021 by Jana in Uncategorized / 9 Comments

I’m sure you’ve heard the news by now, but if you haven’t Google has decided to discontinue Feedburner’s RSS email subscriptions effective July 2021. This means that if you’re currently receiving my new blog posts to your email, you will stop receiving those emails in a couple weeks. I have researched extensively, and have not been able to find a suitable alternative to this service. Sending emails costs money, and most companies out there will not send them for free like Google has been doing. Since I’m a hobby blogger and make no money from this, I cannot afford to pay for a service to deliver my new posts to my subscribers. There are some services with free tiers that I’ve looked into, but one of them broke my site and the others that I’ve looked at require that my full name and mailing address be in the email footer in order to comply with US SPAM laws (CAN-SPAM act). Obviously, that poses a huge security risk for me since I would have to use my home address. I can’t afford to pay for a PO box or UPS mailbox to protect my privacy, and I don’t have a business address I can use instead.

Bottom line, I’m up against a wall and will no longer be able to offer an email subscription to my blog. This will not affect most of my readers. I’ve looked over my Feedburner statistics, and my reach there is very small. Most people have subscribed to my blog in other ways or come to me from Twitter. To those of you who will be affected by this change, please choose another way to follow me! I’d hate to lose you. The two most popular options people use to follow me are Bloglovin’ and Feedly. Both are great, allow you to see posts from all the blogs you’re following in the same place, and offer you options to receive emails when new posts are made. Just log in to your account and adjust your settings accordingly.

I’m disappointed, but I’ll keep looking for another email subscription option! Maybe something else will come along in the future! However you do it, thank you for following me and continuing to come back! It means so much to know that people care about what I have to say.

  1. I just put a subscribe button on the side of my blog, none of my email followers have moved over to the button, but what can you do? I am also a hobby blogger (with a very small following!), and it makes no sense to have to pay to send emails. I love the top ten posts and have started joining in the past few weeks. Good luck with figuring everything out.

I’ve been looking around, and it looks like Follow.it is the best alternative to email subscriptions that I can find. I’ve set things up and am crossing my fingers that people come over! I’m so glad you love the Top Ten Tuesday posts, and am happy to know you’ve joined the fun!

      • Yeah, it doesn’t make things easier, but at least they still have the option to follow! I would just give them several updates :) Hope all works out for you!

I knoooow… I really don’t like bloglovin’ because they steal my page hits and open my blog up in a frame on their site instead of on my own! But there’s really no way around this (my blog will be on there whether I want it or not), it’s a popular service, and I’d rather people hear from me in some way than not at all! I’m still working on an alternative to Feedburner. Fingers crossed I find something!

Feedly will still work! It’s just Feedburner’s RSS email that’s shutting down, so if you’ve been receiving my posts through them then those will be stopping soon. I love Feedly, so that’s a great option! I also just set up a Follow.it subscription service if you’re interested in email updates through them. From what I’ve seen, it’s pretty good. Here’s the link to sign up if you want: https://follow.it/that-artsy-reader-girl?action=followPub

Bottom line, I don’t want to lose you as a follower! <3
