Welcome to another TTT! This week’s topic gives me a chance to get excited about older books that aren’t popping up all over social media right now. You know how the same 10 or so titles show up in every bookstagram/BookTok post or book review for a few months and then all of a sudden those 10 titles change to 10 newer titles and we never heard about anything else? It gets kind of tiring, to be honest. So I thought it would be fun to flood our blogs and social media with discussion about books that used to get love but have been forgotten in favor of shiny new titles. I’d love to get some recs for hidden gems this week!
1. Beneath a Sapphire Sea by Jessica Bryan (published August 1, 1993)
This book is no longer in print. I bought a used copy myself because I’d read great things about it, and I LOVED it. If you can get your hands on the title it’ll be well worth the effort! Galen is a mer-man and his people are dying of a mysterious illness that apparently only Meredith can remedy. Galen knows this, but Meredith has no idea who she is or the knowledge she possesses. As Galen sets out to gain this knowledge, he falls in love with her and she with him. A lasting bond is formed between the two of them as they begin their journey together to save Galen’s people and learn the truth about Meredith.
2. Catherine and the Pirate by Karen Hawkins (published August 20, 2002)
This is part of the Avon True Romance Series for Teens that came out in the early 2000s and I gobbled these books up. I loved (and still love) this series, but this one is my favorite and is the book that made me fall in love with pirate romance!
3. Pretend You Don’t See Her by Mary Higgins Clark (published April 28, 1997)
I’ve loved Mary’s books since I was a teen, and this one was my first and remains my favorite to this day.
4. The Unlikely Romance of Kate Bjorkman by Louise Plummer (published March 1, 1995)
This is the cutest Christmas YA romance. It warmed my heart and has stayed with me for years!
5. Austenland by Shannon Hale (published May 29, 2007)
I loved this book at the time, but it’s really stuck with me because it’s the first book I ever reviewed online (and it was for The Broke & the Bookish)!
6. Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas (published February 28, 2006)
And so begins my love affair with Lord St. Vincent.
7. The Charm School by Susan Wiggs (published April 1, 1999)
Here’s another one of those pirate romances I loved! This was my first adult pirate romance. I met Susan Wiggs a few years ago and had her sign my copy. She looked at it fondly and said it had been so long since someone had told her this was their favorite book of hers. Apparently it was super popular among high school girls back in the day. I found it on my own, but what a coincidence!
8. An Offer From a Gentleman by Julia Quinn (published July 1, 2001)
This might be my favorite Bridgerton book, but don’t quote me on that!
9. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins (published December 2, 2010)
This was my first contemporary YA and it set mw off on an amazing journey through the genre. I still have such warm fuzzy feeling for this book!
10. What I Did For a Duke by Julie Anne Long (published February 22, 2011)
One of the swooniest books I’ve read.
What are some of your favorite books from 10+ years ago?
Have you read and loved any of these?
Aww! Anna made my list this week. It’s just a nostalgic read I remember thinking it was delightful. :)
These books sound good. I didn’t know that Austenland was a book. I saw it on TV and loved it! I will have to see if I have the time to read it!
Have a great week!

Anna and Devil in Winter are both great choices!
Ooh nice picks! These are all totally new to me ones! It was scary how easy this post was to do too! Lol. I feel old now!
Here’s my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
Great list. This week’s prompt was yet again a lot of fun and you did a great job with your picks. I can’t wait to see everyone’s lists of oldies but goodies books ;)

I have a Mary Higgins Clark book on my list as well. I have seen the movie Austenland, but I have not read the book. Have a great day! :)
Nice spin on your theme!

Your reasoning for this topic is exactly why I don’t find myself following trends on my blog. I read what I like and rarely talk about new releases. Thanks for sharing these!
I have a book by Mary Higgins Clark on my list this week, too, but mine is her first novel, Where Are the Children?
Great list! I love using my blog to highlight different books besides the 10 that are currently popular (it bugs me, too, so you’re not the only one who finds it annoying) so this topic was perfect for me!

I couldn’t get anywhere so I changed to Rom Com books –and forgot Austenland! Thanks for that!
Devil in Winter is one of my favorites, too. It didn’t make today’s list because I focused on books that are older than I am, but it’s definitely a keeper.
I think my first Mary Higgins Clark book was Where Are The Children and I was hooked. She probably started my love of suspense and thrillers.

She’s definitely who I attribute my love of thrillers to as well!
I’ve only read Anna & The French Kiss as that one is translated into Dutch as far as I know. Back then, I was not able to read in English, so I don’t know any of these books.

I used to ADORE Mary Higgins Clark! She was my favorite author for a long time. I need to re-read her older books and see if I like them as much as I did when I was a teenager.
Happy TTT!

Unfortunately, her books don’t age very well but I still love them. Her books are like coming home for me. :) And her older ones are my favorites!
I used to read Mary Higgins Clark as well.
LOVE her books. It’s so hard to think there will never be any more! She’s been a reading staple my whole life!
