Welcome to another TTT! Fall really hit my city in the face his past weekend, with temps going from 70 degrees to 25 (Fahrenheit) overnight! So I am finally feeling like Fall is here, and with Halloween coming up soon it’s the perfect time for the weather to change. It’s also the perfect time for the annual Halloween freebie topic! I love aspects of Halloween, including atmospheric reads, candy, pumpkins, black cats, and cute kids in costumes. Super scary is not for me, so I’ve chosen to share my favorite Halloween books from when I was a kid!

1. Popcorn by Frank Asch
2. Trick or Treat, Little Critter by Gina Mayer and Mercer Mayer
3. The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything by Linda Williams
4. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown by Charles M. Schulz and Kara McMahon (Adapter)
5. The Berenstain Bears Trick or Treat by Stan Berenstain and Jan Berenstain

6. Clifford’s Halloween by Norman Bridwell
7. Franklin’s Halloween by Paulette Bourgeois
8. Big Pumpkin by Erica Silverman
9. Clifford’s First Halloween by Norman Bridwell (I really loved Clifford!)
10. Sherlock Chick and the Case of the Night Noises by Robert M. Quackenbush (This is not Halloween-themed, but it was spooky for little Jana!)
Did anyone else grow up in the late 80’s and the 90’s like I did, and read any of these? It was so much fun strolling down memory lane and coming up with this list today.
I hope you have a happy Halloween next week!

I used to read the The Berenstain Bears books as a kid. They were always favorites. :)
A cute list. I don’t do scary either. I enjoy Halloween but it’s not as big over here in the UK. I have gradually noticed more bits appearing in shops over the years but it’s still not what I consider to be a big celebration!
Have a great week!
So many sweet books. In Germany, we only knew Charlie Brown because they would broadcast The Peanuts on German TV. With my kids in England, I got to know the Little Critters, Berenstain Bears, Clifford, and Franklin.
Such cute picture books. My TTT this week is a Top Thirteen of songs that can be played at Halloween.
OOh nice ones! I remember the Berenstain Bears one and some of the other titles seems familiar. They might have been read once in class or the library visits but they aren’t as memorable as the Berenstain Bears! I loved that series! Great picks!
Here’s my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
I love your topic! I did read some of these but I was surprised by the ones I have not heard of! I don’t do scary Halloween either, my imagination can’t handle it the older I get, LOL! Have a great week!
I LOVE The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid Of Anything!
I liked Clifford, too!
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.
These all look like such cute Halloween reads! :)
We grew up around the same time – I remember reading almost all of these! I also really loved Garfield comic books as well!
Happy early Halloween!
That Berenstain Bears book brings back memories from childhood! And my daughter loved the Clifford one.
What a fun take on the challenge! I will have to read Popcorn. It’s my favorite snack. :-)
Love this! Definitely the best Halloween pictures and a way to get that seasonal reading in quickly! I feel like the older I get, the more I appreciate picture books, in a reversal of the usual order, as Jane Austen might say.
I’ve read so many of these on your list, Jana. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Oh, I adore this list! I was born in 1975, so I grew up in the same era as you did. I recognize almost all of these as books I not just loved as a kid but also read to my kids as they were growing up. So fun!
I’m not a big Halloween fan either. Like you, I have aspects I love (Festive decorations! Cute trick-or-treaters! Yummy candy!), but on the whole it’s just not my favorite.
Happy TTT!
Susan

These are great! Mousekin’s Golden House was always my favorite Halloween picture book.
