Same with Colleen Hoover, and I am curious about The Dark Tower by Stephen King, but is not a priority

My mom ADORES Virgin River. Maybe I need to prioritize it next year!
I need to try another of Jane Austen’s someday since I adore her stories (as films or TV shows). And I don’t see myself ever trying to read a Colleen Hoover novel despite her insane popularity. Fun topic this week!
Maybe I need to give Sense and Sensibility a try! Several people have said it’s their favorite. :) I assume Colleen’s books are a bit too heavy for me, based on reviews I’ve seen. Glad you enjoyed this week’s topic!

I’d definitely suggest you try again with Pride and Prejudice although Sense and Sensibility is my favourite Jane Austen.
I do like JoJo Moyes too. The Me Before You trilogy is excellent and funny although often very emotional. I haven’t watched the film!
I’ve been considering trying Sense and Sensibility and then going back to Pride and Prejudice. You’re not the first person to tell me it’s their favorite!
The emotional component is what has scared me away from JoJo Moyes. lol. I don’t like crying!

Concerning your list, I love Stephen King, is one of my favorite authors. Colleen Hoover, I read one book and is not my cup of tea, maybe I will try again. Concerning King, I tried a couple of books before appreciating his writing, but the one that really made me love him is The Talisman written in collaboration with Peter Straub. Is not horror, most like and adventurous thrilling book. Is the book I suggest for starting King’s reading. Have a good time reading!
Ahh, see when I started down the list of insanely popular authors I pretty much had no interest in any of them. I felt like that was getting too negative, lol. So I kind of chose the “authors I see/or use to see a lot of that I decided I would read…at some point” kind of theme! Lol!

MAJOR chicken over here! I watched the TV miniseries of Storm of the Century from the 90’s and it freaked me out so much that I knew reading his books would be even worse. LOL
For what it’s worth, not all Stephen King is the name. I had no interest in him until I tried his more SF works (The Stand, Firestarter), and one of his books (11/22/63) is more historical fiction that has one minor horror element which makes itself more apparent as the book grows.

I’ve read Jodi Picoult, but it was a YA book co-written with her daughter, and I really liked it.
Colleen Hoover I’m mixed about, I’ve loved two of her books and hated one. Trying another one right now, but I can’t say she’s one of my favorite authors.
I have a friend who really likes Colleen Hoover’s novels, but I’ve also read so much about how her books essentially exploit violence and abuse, so I’ve never been interested. I read to be happy and uplifted. Which two books of hers did you love?
Yeah, I’ve never read the hardcore dark ones. I loved Confess and November 9, but if I had to choose one it would be Confess. It was so good!
I stuck with only popular authors that I wanted to try a book by this week… otherwise I would have had a lot of “nope”s on my list today, too! ;-) I did try one of Stephen King’s books, but that’s going to be the last of his books for me, I think. I don’t blame you on that nope.
I tried to go that same route, but found that I’ve actually read books from way more popular authors than I thought! I had a hard time finding ten that I wanted to read, so I had to sneak some nopes in. lol
I’ve got Colleen Hoover and Jodi Picoult on my list. Jane Austen is good. Persuasion is highly underrated. It’s also fairly short!

Yes we do!! My mom loves Virgin River and says it’s quite different from the Netflix series (which she likes, but doesn’t love), so I know she would encourage you to give them a try. :)
We share Stephen King and Diana Gabaldon — actually, Stephen’s been on quite a few I’ve seen. Good luck knocking off a few of these in the future!!

I hear Stephen’s books are kind of a love them or hate them sort of situation, so I’m not surprised by how many people are mentioning him!
I had trouble with this topic because I’ve pretty much read every popular author at least once. Some I liked and some I didn’t.
Well that’s a cool thing to be able to say! I’ve always just read what I wanted and not paid much attention to the hype around certain authors. I read a lot of indie titles now, too.
I’ve read at least one book by seven of these authors. Like you, I have no interest in Colleen Hoover’s books, no matter how popular they are. They just don’t seem to be my kind of thing. I hope you like the authors you’re interested in reading when you get to them.

Her books are quite heavy on violence and abuse, so definitely not for everyone. But that’s ok! She’s doing well enough without counting us as readers. lol. Thank you for stopping by to comment, Susan!

I nodded so hard when I saw Stephen King on your list. Yep. I do not like horror and it always seems like pretty much everything he writes is not my jam. I tried reading a writing memoir by him and it didn’t work for me. I am still happy for people enjoying his stuff. I am not going to be one of them, though.
i have a couple of these authors on my list too.. :) and Stephen King – have only read his ‘on writing’ and a short story.. yet to attempt to read the genre he is most well known for ..
