The Christmas Songs Book Tag has become a pretty popular feature on my blog each year as part of A Bookish Little Christmas! I created this tag in 2015 and bring it back each year for people to participate in. Because I do this every year, I am limiting my choices to books I’ve read in 2023. I’m also trying to only use one book one time, which will be tricky because this was a great reading year and I found multiple books that I really, really loved. You can do whatever you would like. :)
1. “All I Want for Christmas Is You”: Favorite bookish couple.
Beckett and Evie from In the Weeds by B.K. Borison. These two are so, so good individually and together. It takes them a while to get it together and just fall in love already, but it’s so sweet when they do.
2. “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”: Name a book where a character is away from home (school, vacation, etc.).
First to Fall by Jenny B. Jones features a fauxmance between Olivia and Lachlan, who accidentally get married and then decide to stay married for convenience. Olivia moves in to Lachlan’s house and they quickly learn there’s more realness to their fake relationship than they realized.
3. “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”: Name your favorite “little” book (children’s book, short story, novella, etc.).
Signal Moon by Kate Quinn is a magical little short story of a woman working in Bletchley Park during WWII and a US officer from 2023 trying to help each other over the radio waves that span 80 years. I absolutely loved this story.
4. “Santa Claus is Coming to Town“: What book(s) do you hope Santa brings you this year?
The Curse of Morton Abbey by Clarissa Harwood and Borrowed Bride by Noah Hardy.
5. “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”: Which book turned your nose red (made you cry)?
I’ve always vowed to never read books that make me cry, but I fell in love with WWII historical fiction this year so uh oh! The Last Bookshop in London by Madeline Martin absolutely made me cry.
6. “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year”: Your favorite book/kind of book to read during the holidays.
Christmas romances!! But it’s so early in the season that I haven’t read many yet. The one I’m most excited to start, however, is Cabin Crush by Kasey Stockton. The entire Gift-Wrapped Romance series has me excited, actually!
7. “We Three Kings”: Your favorite trilogy/book from a trilogy (or feel free to fudge it and pick a book from a series).
I’m going with a series. Fourth Wing and Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros. The hype is real. I am such a fangirl for this series, and I can’t shut up about it.
8. “Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow”: A character you would love to be snowed in with.
Dallas from My Phony Valentine by Courtney Walsh. *swoon*
9. “Last Christmas”: A book that seriously let you down.
I have DNFed quite a few books I was super excited about this year, but I think the two most disappointing ones for me were The True Love Experiment by Christina Lauren and Then Came You by Lisa Kleypas. I tried really hard with CLo’s book, but I hated Fizzy as a main character. Then Came You has some major consent issues, and some very unlikeable characters.
10. “White Christmas”: An upcoming release you’re dreaming about.
The next Empyrean book from Rebecca Yarros!! I SO hope to see news about it soon!
