Welcome to another TTT! This week’s topic was submitted by Lydia @ lydiaschoch.com and is “How My Reading Habits Have Changed Over Time”. I love this topic! It’s always fun to look back and see how we’ve grown and changed. I decided to think all the way back to the year I started blogging: 2011–two years after I graduated college. My reading habits and tastes have changed a lot since that time, but here are the ten biggest changes!
1. I used to read YA exclusively, but not anymore! I read maybe one YA title a year now.
2. I could not make audiobooks work for me back then. I tried, but I could not pay attention and I really didn’t like most of the narrators. Now I’ve found my audiobook niche and my favorite narrators, so I listen to them all the time now!
3. I DNF more. Not finishing a book wasn’t even a thing I thought about, most likely because I was still fresh off my years of required reading from high school and college and DNFing meant getting a bad grade. I’ve embraced the DNF and my reading life is better for it.
4. I prioritize the books I want to read, rather than saving them for the opportune moment. I’m a mood reader, and I’ve accepted that! I no longer read from a schedule, and I no longer save books as incentives for getting things done or for specific trips. I read when I want, because I never know when I’ll want to read that book again anyway. lol.
5. I read WAY more historical romance and historical fiction than I used to! I’ve always liked it, but now it’s my favorite. Maybe the turmoil in today’s world has me wanting to escape to the past?
6. I read a lot of indie titles now! I used to go for the big publishers only, but I love seeking out lesser-known titles and authors now.
7. Maybe the market is just more saturated, but closed-door romances are in abundance right now and I love them! I love all romance, but sometimes I’m not in the mood for spice.
8. I rarely read physical copies anymore. My eyes just aren’t what they used to be, and after two surgeries I’m no longer in danger of losing my vision but a lot of damage was done from my degenerative eye disease. So I exclusively read on a Kindle! I love owning physical copies of my favorite books, though. I call it my “apocalypse collection” in case my Kindle ever dies. LOL. I have a magnifying glass, too! Just in case!
9. I don’t read as many books as I used to. I have a lot of new hobbies that I didn’t have back then, namely crochet and cross stitch and Switch games, so I don’t have as much time.
10. I re-read now! I always thought there wasn’t enough time to get my TBR under control if I re-read any books, but now I love re-visiting favorites!
How have your reading habits changed over the years?
Can you identify with any of my changes?

Based on the lists I’m reading this week, I’m BIG time in the minority. I only read physical books and I still love it. ;)
Great list and topic. I only read ebooks too.
I wish my eyes would let me! There’s something special about physical books, I just have to be able to increase the font size now!
A great list. I wasn’t sure that I could think of 10 different reading habits 😂
Have a great week!

It’s funny because I used to re-read all the time. I had times where I would wait months before getting a new book. Now I have too many “new” books–even if some are 10+ years old–to read that re-reading is a thing of the past…unless I’m doing something Stephanie Garber related obviously! Lol. I still prefer my physical books myself. My kindle collects dust more often than not, so I hope my eyes stay strong and healthy until the end of my days because I don’t think I could cope with exclusively reading on my kindle. I’ve pretty much kept up with YA titles since it’s first big paranormal boom in early 2010s. Finding adult books has been harder even with sticking with some of my original faves, but I have added more to my TBR pile…just haven’t gotten to them all yet! Lol.
Here’s my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
I did mine a little differently. I focused on which genres I selected when I was younger compared to now. It was interesting.
I resonate with a lot of your list here. Keep having fun with reading!
I’m still not into audiobooks but I checked out one yesterday on a whim. We’ll see how I do.
I just got into historical romance in the last five years. I’d always assumed I wouldn’t like it but I was clearly wrong.
It’s great that you’re making time for things besides reading. Having a little diversity in hobbies is fun.
I read from my cell phone Kindle app for the same reason – my eyes. My eyesight has never been great, but age has done it no favors. I am sorry you have had to deal with a degenerative eye disease. But so glad that it’s under control.
And I also no longer read books I am not enjoying.
Thanks for hosting!
I was one of those paper-loving readers who TOTALLY resisted getting a Kindle. Now, I can’t live without mine! I still read mostly paper books, but I also love reading on my Kindle. I love having both options as well as audiobooks available to me.
Happy TTT!

Yay! I’m glad you liked it. :)
Embrace the DNF! ;-) That’s one of my big changes, too.
Your list is fantastic! I have a lot of similarities on my list as you do. I, too, struggled to DNF, but now that’s not an issue. And I’m digging the clean-read movement. 😀
So many of us seem to have strayed away from YA lately! And gotten more into audiobooks as well.
I don’t think I could come up with a list of ten, but I DNF and re-read a lot too, when I feel I need it. Great list, and the image and bio of you is so cute too.
Thank you so much! You’ve made my day!
Isn’t it fun to look back and see how you have grown, changed, “evoloved” as a person?
We have several changes of habit in common! I’m so sorry to hear about your eye disease, but glad that surgeries were able to stabilize things. For me it’s just the natural aging process, but speeded up; apparently my eyes are about 10 years ahead of schedule.
Yes on reading indie books, DNF’ing more, and prioritizing what you want to read (though I forgot to put those on my list.) And yes on reading audiobooks now. I also have more hobbies now (spinning and knitting, for example), but I find I still read nearly as much… just not as fast, because of my eyes.
I do so many of the things you do now. I DNF when I want to. I read what I want to. I read a mix of indie and traditionally published. I love the variety of them all. I still struggle with audiobooks but I do find that having favorite narrators helps a lot!
I am having eye issues too and find that sometimes reading on the Kindle bothers me but sometimes it’s any reading. I have eye floaters, no solution for them it seems, and sometimes they seem to be everywhere! I have to tell my brain they aren’t there and push through as much as possible.
Good list!!
I read more digital books than physical books because I can access them on my phone (which is always with me!). I have not yet gotten into audio books (though I tried a couple of time)
