Welcome to another TTT! This week’s topic is a non-bookish freebie, which means you get to come up with literally any topic you can think of… that’s not bookish. lol. Last time we had this topic I wrote about the amazing places I’ve visited. Today I’ve decided to focus on another hobby of mine: crochet. Omg your work is exquisite! I crochet but never really tried amigurumi. I feel like they’re so fine and detailed and I don’t think I have the skills for that yet. Maybe one day with more practice!
Thank you! Amigurumi is actually what I started with! Crocheting flat things overwhelms me so much. lol. And the idea of making a sweater seems impossible to me! I know I did things backwards from what people usually do! What kinds of things do you crochet?
I started with scrunchies, then hats and scarves. I don’t know if that’s the normal way people do it but I’m certainly less intimidated by them than by amigurumi! 😅I have made sweaters and some other wearables but I wouldn’t say I’m good at them yet! I haven’t crocheted much in the last couple of months, it’s too hot in the summer for sweaters and scarves! But I’ll try to take more pictures when I start crocheting again.
One of my friends crocheted me a scrunchie! I love it. Very cool. :) Hats and scarves are great, too! I’ve been considering trying to make a hat since many are done in the round, which is what I’m used to. Maybe I should try! I looked at your blog and WOW. Beautiful work! My favorite is the purpley one in the middle. I’ve not been crocheting as much these last few months since it’s been so hot, but I’m planning to start up again soon! I make my mom a Christmas ornament every year, so I need to get going on that soon so she will be able to display it this year!
Aww, thanks! Yes, I think you could make really beautiful hats if you’re used to crocheting in the round. You should definitely try! It’s such a nice tradition that you make a Christmas ornament for your mom every year, I love that! My husband and I don’t really celebrate Christmas but I’m thinking of making some Christmas stockings this year and doing something small maybe.
I think I will give it a try this year! Do you have any fun hat pattern recommendations? Christmas stockings would be lovely! My family already has them or I’d be making some, too. There are so many pretty patterns out there. If you make some this year, I’d love to see!

I’ve done several with this pattern and it has always turned out well (imho! I don’t know if the recepients of my hats will agree!) If you do make this or other hats, I’d love to see, and I’ll be sure to post if I do Christmas stockings too!

Thank you! Gardening is something I absolutely cannot do. lol. I have tried to grow things, starting slow with things like succulents and geraniums just to see if I can handle green things at all. I killed them all! I don’t even know what I did wrong! My uncle has a huge garden and brings us all kinds of fruit and vegetables all year, though, so at least I can still benefit from a garden even though it’s not mine. lol. Do you grow food or flowers? What a lovely topic you came up with!
I love gardening and I join in the the #SixOnSaturday crowd for a gardening post most Saturdays. Flowers tend to be easier to start off than fruit and veg. Next Spring perhaps try some Cosmos, Marigolds, Nasturtium and some Sunflowers in late Spring. They all get on with growing themselves.
Veg are harder but green beans are pretty robust as are tomatoes.

Thank you! I thought crochet would be extremely hard. I waited years before trying because it made no sense to me, but I bought a beginner kit by The Woobles and it was a game changer. It came with all the supplies and step-by-step video tutorials. I never would have learned without it. If you ever decide you’d like to go for it and learn, I highly recommend their blue penguin kit. That was my first, and I graduated on to regular patterns very quickly.

I love this so much!! These are fabulous! I do crochet but I am not that good at amigurumi. My mom is. I have tried a few, but i think I would have done better if I had started with smaller projects rather than the bigger ones. I love crocheting, sewing, hiking, walking, and so many other things. Great topic choice for today and I followed your crochet account on Instagram.
Aw, thanks Cindy! What kinds of things do you crochet? I am only good at amigurumi. lol. That’s how I learned to crochet, and since you have to have very tight stitches so the stuffing doesn’t show through I can’t crochet anything flat to save my life. It always ends up stiff and curling. lol. I’d love to make a soft, flowy blanket but I can’t train myself to loosen up even if I use a bigger hook! Hopefully someday I can do it. Sewing is another thing I want to get into. I took a lot of sewing classes in high school and learned to make bags, pajama pants, and I even made a large quilt in the “Around the World” pattern… but I can’t just pick up a sewing pattern and make something. My mom loves sewing and is really good at it, so I need to get her to teach me more.

I love to crochet blankets, baby blankets, scarves, hats, and granny squares…I have learned quite a few different stitches…I have made a purse, but I didn’t like how it turned out. I have done several amigurumi animals and still need to finish the elephant I am working on, but I haven’t worked on it since last summer! I wasn’t even that far from being finished, LOL! I have sewn a ton of things, currently working on a king size quilt for my bed, and gathered materials to make a quilt for my daughter, and one for my son as well.
So cool! I need to try my hand at granny squares. Those look fun, and I have a lot of scrap yarn that I don’t have enough of to make an animal or toy, so granny squares would be a nice way to use it all up.
Jana, they are not that hard either. I taught myself in December :)

Oh my gosh these are all so cute!! I can’t even pick a favorite. But I am a sucker for the teddy bear (friend-shaped, and a gorgeous shade) and the unique style & coloring on the dragon caught my eye.

I don’t have the patience for counting stitches and rows for crochet, knitting or cross-stitch, so I do free-style hand embroidery! Sometimes I share that one on my blog.
Thank you so much! I’d love to start learning embroidery. The stitches all look so overwhelming to me. I do love cross stitch, though, so it shouldn’t be too tricky to make the jump. Did you just dive in, or did you find videos or books to help learn all the different stitches?

These are darling! I never learned how to crochet or knit, but I did a few cross-stitch kits back in the 80s. Other than reading, I’d say my hobby is photography. I’m a point-and-shoot kind of person, but I have a great camera and enjoy getting wildlife shots when we’re out on the road in our RV.
