Welcome to another TTT! This week’s topic is Authors You Wish Were Still Writing Today, and was submitted by Rebecca @ Top100Books. These could be authors who have passed away, are retired, or are taking a hiatus from writing. You could also spin this and share authors who have switched to a genre you’re not interested in. I’m kind of doing a little of everything today!
Lisa Kleypas
When I put this topic on the schedule, Lisa Kleypas was nowhere to be found. Now she’s back and she’s got a new book coming out this fall, Queen of Lombard Street, but it’s historical fiction. There’s a small romance, but it’s not like my beloved Ravenels, Wallflowers, or Hathaways series. And yes, I’ll absolutely be reading it! I love historical fiction, too. I’m so happy she’s back and doing better, but I do miss her historical romances!
Tessa Dare
I’ve been pining away for her next release, The Bride Bet, for years now. I know she has had some personal struggles and I don’t fault her for taking a step back. But if she’s seeing this, I hope she knows I miss her!
Sarah Morgenthaler
I’m wishing for the fourth Moose Springs, Alaska book that was teased years ago and also for the continuation of her Heart of the Wilderness series! I haven’t heard any news about books from her since her last release in 2024.
Tracey Garvis Graves
She’s still around doing events, but news of upcoming books hasn’t dropped in the last couple years. I hope she’s still writing!
Courtney Cole
No news books in almost 3 years, and I haven’t seen much of her online either.
Andy Weir
I know Project Hail Mary is in theaters and I’m so happy about that, but he hasn’t released a book since PHM released in 2021!
C.L. Wilson
I’ve been excited about the release of the third book in the Weathermages of Mystral series since 2017! I wonder if it’s still going to happen someday.
Julia Quinn
I understand she’s busy consulting on the Netflix series and now she’s running a fancy publishing service that’s producing pretty editions of other peoples’ historical romances, but I’d love another book (or series) from her!
Mary Higgins Clark
Her mysteries are like home for me, and I’m still so sad she’s gone.
Julie Garwood
I’m sad she’s gone, too. I really enjoyed her historical romances.
Which authors do you miss?

Looks like you found a great collection of authors. :)
Thank you!
Great list! I have Mary Higgins Clark on my list too. Also her daughter.
Thanks for hosting!
I had forgotten that Carol passed away! She was so young, Super sad.
A great looking list. I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone else has on theirs!
Have a great week!
Thanks, Emily!
Nice picks! I haven’t read these authors but an familiar with most of them by their names. I’m always hopeful that the authors who seem to take a break from writing will one day just come back. It’s happened before, so hence my hopefulness! Lol.
Here’s my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
It does happen every once in a while!
Lovely idea. I’ll have to remember that when authors come up again.
I chose contemporary German authors.
Thank you! You chose a lovely topic.
Thank you, Jana. I’m glad you liked it.
I couldn’t think of any so I went a different direction today. I am sure there are authors I wish were still writing, but trying to remember is a different story altogether, LOL!
LOL. Remembering is a tricky thing! I’m glad you went in another direction so you were still able to participate!
Thanks Jana, I do enjoy participating :)
I also have CL Wilson on my list! My quick internet sleuthing found that she went on a writing retreat earlier this year, so hopefully she’ll release something soonish :)
Ooooo yay! That sounds promising! And wow, I don’t know anyone who likes her books so this is exciting!
Thank you for hosting! I am unfamiliar with many of these authors but would like to read the mysteries written by Clark one day!
I am the first to admit that her books have not aged well at all, but I grew up on them so I don’t mind. Her earlier ones are the best! Very fun and exciting without keeping me up all night afraid of every little sound I hear. Pretend You Don’t See Her and Loves Music Loves to Dance are my two favorites. :)
MHC is on my list today, too. Even though I didn’t love her later books like I did her earlier ones, she’s still one of my favorite all-time authors. I used to INHALE her books. She had a long, successful writing career, but I still miss her!
Happy TTT!

Her later books are definitely not as strong, IMO. I agree that her earlier titles are still her best. Did you ever see the movies they made out of some of her more popular books? I think I have them all on DVD, and it’s so fun to revisit her stories that way. Which book of hers is your favorite? Pretend You Don’t See Her is mine!
This was a great topic! I was delighted to see that Kleypas has a new book coming out, although I, too, hope she isn’t finished with historical romance. I hope Tessa Dare’s health issues allow her to write again, eventually. Same with Kelly Barnhill, who is trying to heal from post-concussion syndrome. (I have a cousin who had that; it’s brutal, and she still struggles with some things.)
I hadn’t heard of Kelly Barnhill’s injury. How sad! I hear concussions are so hard to heal from. Rachel Griffin just released a book that she wrote during her concussion healing process. It’s called The Sun and the Starmaker, and the writing is lovely! Part of the proceeds from the pre-order campaign went to the Concussion Research Laboratory, which I thought was so cool. Hope your cousin continues to heal!
I feel confident in Tracey Garvis-Graves’ eventual return, given that she’s generally had spread-out releases over the length of her career, but I too would be interested in a next book. I’m impressed that you know as much as you do about some authors’ whereabouts/writing status…there’s too much going on in the book world for me to be checking up on the ones who kind enough to give me some breathing room between releases until it’s been at least 5 years. 🤣 (and by that point, if not publishing then their authorial web presence has probably been abandoned so I’m even more lost, as I am finding out while trying to finish my own list for this week)
I’m pretty positive TGG will return as well. She’s still very active in the book world, so maybe she’s currently writing something new as we speak!
I don’t stay super up to date with most authors, but there’s a few I really love who I keep tabs on in anticipation of future books or just concern for their wellbeing. I check on Lisa Kleypas at least once a month, for example. I’m sure it’s difficult to share so much of oneself online, and I admire the authors who really put it out there. I think I’d be pretty private. lol. Anyway, I struggled a bit with my list this week, too!
