Top Ten (Nine) Best and Worst Series Enders

Posted October 7, 2013 by Jana in Top Ten Tuesday / 14 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted over at the other blog I write for, The Broke and the Bookish.

I’m really bad at finishing series, and I’m not sure why. It might be that I either hated the first one, so reading the rest are pointless (Halo, Glimmerglass) … or it could be that I love the series so much that I’m scared to finish it (Requiem)… or the ending is not out yet (Of Neptune, Ruin and Rising, Infinite)… or I’m really invested in series that are still so new that book #2 hasn’t even been released. Regardless, most of the series enders I’ve read have been major disappointments for me. I think that why I have a hard time sticking with a book series. I was able to come up with a few, but I could not make it to ten this time!

Endings

The Forgotten Locket by Lisa Mangum
Into the Still Blue by Veronica Rossi
Emerald Green by Kerstin Gier

actualendings

Hidden by Sophie Jordan
Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins
Forever by Maggie Stiefvater
Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer
Tempest Revealed by Tracy Deebs
Otherwise Engaged by Suzanne Brockman

Clearly, I have bad luck with series. My favorite ending is actually Into the Sill Blue, which I just finished last week. It’s amazing! I’d love to know what other series out there end wonderfully, so I can read those series! Please link me to your posts, and leave me some recommendations!

Top Ten Best Sequels Ever

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted over at the other blog I write for, The Broke and the Bookish.

This week’s topic is kind of exciting! I’m usually not the biggest fan of sequels, just because the first book is usually WAY better. These sequels, however, were amazing!

Sequels

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins
(Sequel to Anna and the French Kiss)

Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo
(Sequel to Shadow and Bone)

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer
(Sequel to Cinder)

Time After Time by Tamara Ireland Stone
(Sequel to Time Between Us)

Of Triton by Anna Banks
(Sequel to Of Poseidon)

Asunder by Jodi Meadows
(Sequel to Incarnate)

Thorns by Kate Avery Ellison
(Sequel to Frost)

Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas
(Sequel to Throne of Glass)

Through the Ever Night by Veronica Rossi
(Sequel to Under the Never Sky)

Linger by Maggie Stiefvater
(Sequel to Shiver)

So, what do you think? Have you read any of these? What sequels are your favorites?

I love fall! I love when the leaves start to turn, the air gets crisp, and all the books start being released! It’s a really exciting time of year. :) There are so many amazing books I hope to get to this fall, and here are my top ten. :) All but one are ARCs, and I’ve got an ARC of the Diana Peterfreund’s next book, Across a Star-Swept Sea, that comes out next month, so I need to get reading! I’m so excited for them both!

1. Cress by Marissa Meyer
2. Revelations by J.A. Souders
3. Being Sloane Jacobs by Lauren Morrill
4. For Darkness Shows the Stars by Diana Peterfreund
5. Hostage Three by Nick Lane
6. These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman
7. Lovestruck in London by Rachel Schurig
8. The Boy on the Bridge by Natalie Standiford
9. Alienated by Melissa Landers
10. Perfect Ruin by Lauren DeStefano

Which books are you hoping to “fall” into over the next few months? :)

Top Ten Things that Make My Life as a Book Blogger Easier

Posted August 20, 2013 by Jana in Top Ten Tuesday / 14 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted over at the other blog I write for, The Broke and the Bookish.

Life as a book blogger is by no means easy, but it’s amazing and I love it! I had no idea that I’d still be blogging three years later! Today I get to share with you my list of awesome stuff that makes being a book blogger just a bit easier.

Goodreads (and Goodreads App)
Oh my, Goodreads is a godsend. I have no idea what I would do without it! I use it for investigating the books I’m asked to read and review before accepting, keeping an inventory of the books I own or want, posting my reviews for extra publicity, finding new blogging friends and groups to join, and networking with authors. I’m always updating what I’m reading and what page I’m on, and I love to keep track of what my friends are up to! I have found some amazing books through recommendations on Goodreads!

Netgalley/Edelweiss
These two sites are just no good for me, even though I love them so! I love the easy access to galleys, and the fact that you can submit your review to the publisher through them. It’s much easier to receive a book through these sites, because it costs the pubs less… so that means more opportunities for me! AND… they take up no room on my shelves, so I can request so many more!

Nice, polite authors
I love authors that support book bloggers. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve received an email or tweet from an author, thanking me for my review. Sometimes I’m even thanked for bad reviews! It really makes life so much easier when authors understand us, and recognize that we’re doing what we love.

Kindle
My Kindle holds so many more books than my shelves ever could! I’d hate to have to stop reading because I had no more room! Never fear, this can’t possibly happen anymore!

Business Cards
Oh yes. Business cards are a must. You can hand them out at events, slip them in to books you giveaway, leave them on boards at libraries or book shops, etc. It’s definitely a great way to get your name out.

Blogging Friends
You, my friends, make blogging so much fun! I love talking books with you, reading your reviews, participating in your memes and book events, sharing ARCs, and finding you at events! I’m not sure I could do it without you. :)

Twitter
I love interacting with you all through Twitter! And I love using it to promote my posts.

iCal/Google Calendar
I have no idea what I would do without these calendars for scheduling out my posts. I’d be double-booked all over the place!

Amazon Prime
Books in two days? YES. Plus, you can borrow a lot of Kindle books for free through Amazon Prime.

Book Events (signings, ALA, BEA, etc.)
Events are the best way to network with the pubs and authors you email all the time. Showing up at events shows them that you’re in this for the long haul. It builds trust, plus they get to put a face with a name and you do too!

So, what am I missing? Are there any secrets out there you’d like to let me in on?

Top Ten Books I Wish Could Have Had Sequels

Posted August 6, 2013 by Jana in Top Ten Tuesday / 28 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted over at the other blog I write for, The Broke and the Bookish.

Hello! It’s Sunday night, and I’m writing this post two days into my road trip across the USA (from Utah to Florida). Right now, I’m in Topeka, Kansas at a Comfort Suites.

Anyway, there is no guarantee that I will have wi-fi in Paducah, Kentucky tomorrow night so I thought I’d be safe and write my post up tonight. Also, because I’m in the hotel I don’t really have time to make a pretty amazing TTT graphic. So, it’ll just be a list today. :(

This was actually a really hard topic for me, because so many of the books I read are already duets or trilogies. Sometimes I just miss the characters, though, so that’s what I will mostly be focusing on today.

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
I know we get a little bit of these two in Lola, but I want a whole other book for them! I love those two, and I want to know where things went after the story we got to read ended.

Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan
I just really love Dash and Lily. And I love books set in NYC. I’d love to see what happened with their relationship, and if they continued with the red notebook of tasks. :)

Nocturne by Syrie James
The ending left SO much more to be desired. Syrie even told me herself that Michael and Nicole’s story is far from over. We only got to see them for three days! I want more!

The Summer My Life Began by Shannon Greenland
I just love the family in this book, and the setting. I want to spend another summer there!

An extra book in the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer
I’d really like to see what happens with Jacob and Reneesme.

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith
I just love Oliver…

The Host by Stephenie Meyer
It needs a sequel, and Stephenie told us she was going to write one! So come on, already!

Wanderlove by Kirsten Hubbard
I want to travel more with Bria and Rowan!

Unbreak My Heart by Melissa C. Walker
I love Red, and I love Clementine’s family! I want to see them again!

Which books did you choose? And wish me luck as I continue my realllllllly long drive!
