Top Ten Popular Books/Series I Feel Like Everyone Has Read… But Me

Posted June 1, 2021 by Jana in Top Ten Tuesday / 17 Comments

Welcome to another TTT! I think my scheduling issues with my posts have been worked out, but I’m not positive yet! I’ve done so, so much testing. If you stopped by at midnight (EDT) or later on 1/6/21 and TTT wasn’t visible to you yet, please comment (once you can see it, obviously) and let me know which device and browser you’re using, and what part of the world you’re in. I will get to the bottom of this eventually, mark my word!

This week’s topic is a freebie, which is so much fun but also hard for me since I come up with all the topics and then when a freebie rolls around it’s… just another topic I have to come up with! LOL. But it’s fun for me to see what everyone else comes up with because sometimes I steal those topics for future weeks! If I do that I will, of course, credit you and your creativity. Coming up with new topics can be hard for me after so many years!

I chose to feature super popular books or book series that I feel like everyone in the world has read but me! Here we go!

Books

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
And that’s not for lack of trying! I have tried and failed to finish this book at least 5 times now. But I love every film adaptation I’ve seen.

The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks
And I NEVER will. I’ve seen the movie, and this story is brutal on the feels.

Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
I could potentially be talked into this one. Maybe not.

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen

Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James
I’m very sorry, but I will not.

Series

(Apparently a series can only be extremely popular if the author has multiple initials in their name.)

Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
Well, I’ve read the first one because it was required for my children’s lit program in grad school and ended up DNFing the second one because it’s just not my cup of tea. I used to feel like I was majorly missing out, and now I can’t find it in me to care anymore. lol. If I’m missing out, oh well! I just don’t care!

The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkein
But I have seen the movies!

The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
I’ve also read the first one and thought it was lovely, so I just need to make the rest of them a priority.

A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin
I was intrigued for a while and even own the first book, but I’ve since been told (by many trusted friends and family members) that this series might be too much for me. LOL

Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
I was anti-books as a kid, and now I feel like I’ve passed the point in my life where I would even feel the magic everyone talks about. I just don’t think I’d see the appeal having not read them as a child.

Let’s discuss!
Do I need to read anything listed here?
Should I just continue on not having read some of these?
Are any particularly overrated?

Top Ten Book Quotes About Hope

Posted May 24, 2021 by Jana in Top Ten Tuesday / 21 Comments

Welcome to another TTT! This week’s topic is book quotes that fit a particular theme! I love finding quotes from books that I love, and this week I chose to feature quotes that center around the theme of hope. Things are uncertain and unhappy in the world right now for so many people, and for so many different reasons. Life is really hard, especially now, so I thought it might be nice to look for quotes that encourage hope and looking forward to better things ahead. I had a lot of fun looking for these quotes, and am excited to see what themes and quotes are featured this week by others!

NOTE: Since I moved webhosts in April, my posts are no longer appearing on my blog on time. Ever. I’ve been working meticulously with them, and they cannot figure out why my posts are anywhere from 10 minutes to 6 hours late. I write these posts way ahead of time and schedule them to post at the correct time, so I’m sure you can imagine my frustration. I look undependable and like I’m flaking out on this meme when I’m not. Please hang in there with me and understand that the Linky may not be available at midnight (EDT) for a while as we try to figure this out.

1. “Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.”
Coraline by Neil Gaiman

2. “The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater.”
The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien

3. “Hope can be a powerful force. Maybe there’s no actual magic in it, but when you know what you hope for most and hold it like a light within you, you can make things happen, almost like magic.”
Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor

4. “To wish was to hope, and to hope was to expect”
Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen

5. “The most powerful weapon is hope.”
Heart’s Blood by Juliet Marillier

6. “You can appreciate the good things all around you, but the best part is imminent, just out of reach. Like… perpetual anticipation.”
Wanderlove by Kirsten Hubbard

7. “If you knew the kind of little miracles happening every moment you breathe in, you wouldn’t be able to handle it.”
The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

8. “Hope was the wind that came from nowhere to fill your sails and carry you home.”
King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo

Top Ten Book Titles That Are Complete Sentences

Posted May 17, 2021 by Jana in Top Ten Tuesday / 10 Comments

Welcome to another TTT! This week’s topic was submitted by Jessica at A Cocoon of Books, and features book titles that are complete sentences. I thought this sounded like a fun challenge. A sentence makes a statement, asks a question, or expresses a command, wish, or exclamation. You can make this hard by looking for books with longer titles, or you can it easier. It’s totally up to you! These books are all books I’ve either read or hope to read someday. I tried to go with longer sentences, but it was hard! So here we go!

1. Say Yes to the Marquess by Tessa Dare
2. I Hate You More by Lucy Gilmore
3. Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! by Mo Willems
4. I Heard That Song Before by Mary Higgins Clark
5. Paris is Always a Good Idea by Jenn McKinlay
6. I’ve Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella
7. Gentlemen Prefer Nerds by Joan Kilby
8. My Heart Stood Still by Lynn Kurland
9. Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake by Alexis Hall
10. You Had Me at Hola by Alexis Daria

What titles can you think of that function as complete sentences?

Top Ten Books with Flowers & Foliage on the Cover

Posted May 10, 2021 by Jana in Top Ten Tuesday / 14 Comments

Welcome to another TTT! This week’s topic features books with nature on the cover. Flowers, trees, pretty landscapes, even animals! It’s finally warming up here in my neck of the woods. We’ve turned on our sprinkler system, and it’s time to start planting flowers. This topic couldn’t have come at a more perfect time, in my opinion. I decided to focus on flowers and foliage this week! All of these books are from my to-read list, have practically never appeared on my blog, and have already been released!

The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton
Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella
The Caretakers by Eliza Maxwell
Under an Alaskan Sky by Jennifer Snow
Coming Up Roses by Staci Hart
100 Days of Sunlight by Abbie Emmons
The Dead Girls Club by Damien Angelica Walters
Sunrise Cabin by Stacey Donovan
The Gamble by Kristen Ashley
Leave The Night On by Laura Trentham

Have you read and enjoyed any of these?
Any I should avoid?
