Five Bookish & Five Personal Goals for 2026

Posted January 19, 2026 by Jana in Top Ten Tuesday / 16 Comments

Welcome to another TTT! This week’s topic is on goals for 2026! I’m not one of those “new year, new me” kind of people. I am great just the way I am. I do see every year as a new beginning, though, and I find myself thinking of things I’d like to accomplish. Some of these goals are easy and some will most likely take a lifetime. The point is never giving up on the things I hope for! So today I’m sharing five bookish goals and five personal goals for 2026.

Bookish Goals

1. Read at least a book a week, which means 52 books this year.
2. Read more books from my actual bookshelves. I’m running out of room and need to do a massive cull, so I need to read my physical books and not always reach for my Kindle.
3. Work on my Netgalley ratio! I know that this kind of competes with my previous goal, but my ratio is abysmal and I want to improve that.
4. Write more reviews, even if they’re tiny! I did really well with this last year, but I didn’t write as many reviews as I wanted so I’d like to do even better with this this year.
5. Prioritize the books I’m most excited about no matter when they come/came out. I don’t need to read what’s treanding or what’s about to release. I need to read what I want!

Personal Goals

1. Go outside more. I am dangerously (not kidding) Vitamin D deficient and I need some sun! I know it’ll help my anxiety, too.
2. Move more. I deal with a lot of chronic pain, and walking should help.
3. Eat less sugar. I want to cut down on inflammation and strengthen my immune system.
4. Focus more on the things I’m grateful for.
5. Learn how to not be anxious about the things I can’t control. No clue how to do this. Mindfulness? Meditation? I am such an anxious person, and I’d like to feel more in control of my mind even if I can’t control everything else.

What are you hoping to accomplish this year, bookish or not?

Top Ten Most Anticipated Books Releasing in the First Half of 2026

Posted January 12, 2026 by Jana in Top Ten Tuesday / 19 Comments

Welcome to another TTT! Today’s topic is: Top Ten Most Anticipated Books Releasing in the First Half of 2026. I love doing this topic because it gets me so excited for the upcoming year, plus I love visiting everyone else’s posts and adding a million books to my to-read list that I missed! So here we go! My top ten most anticipated books (at least, for now) releasing in January through June! I’m not including And Now, Back to You by B.K. Borison since I’ve already read it!

Love and Other Brain Experiments by Hannah Brohm
Releasing February 2, 2026

Perfect for fans of Ali Hazelwood and Christina Lauren, a STEM academic-rivals-to-lovers rom-com set at a New York conference about two neuroscientists who are forced to pretend they’re dating, leading to unexpected chemistry and a heartfelt journey of self-discovery.

Neuroscientist Dr. Frances Silberstein has success on the brain. As a grad student, she was offered a job by her brilliant boyfriend, but determined to make it on her own, she turned it—and him—down. Now, stuck in postdoc purgatory with no job security and no personal life to speak of, Frances is desperate to make a breakthrough. Her best shot is a summer conference packed with her field’s leading scientists. The only problem? It’s organized by her ex, who has found the success that’s eluded her. But backing out is not an option, because Frances desperately needs to network to save her career.

Enter Dr. Lewis North: her perceptive, meticulous, and inconveniently attractive rival. When their academic sniping gets mistaken for flirtatious chemistry, Frances doesn’t deny it—putting her integrity and career on the line. As soon as her prefrontal cortex is operational again, Frances realizes she needs to keep up the charade, or risk everything she’s worked for. Faking data is out of the question, but fake dating? That might just be the solution she needs.

But as Lewis starts to make her reward centers spark and a major setback has Frances questioning everything, she must confront what she’s willing to chase—for love, for science, and for the future she thought she wanted.

Without a Clue by Melissa Ferguson
Releasing February 17, 2026

When a mystery writer mysteriously dies on a cruise filled with rabid fans, his protégé (and personal assistant) teams up with a rugged cowboy and fellow writer to crack the case. One part Only Murders in the Building, one part Book Lovers, and a whole lot of laughs, Without a Clue will keep readers guessing and swooning until the very end.

If there’s one thing Penelope Mae Dupont prizes most, it’s her composure–her ability to stay calm in the face of stress. It’s a vital trait in her job as a personal assistant to renowned mystery author Hugh Griffin. But when Pip organizes a book cruise featuring The Fabulous Seven–seven celebrated authors from different genres who have supported each other through thick and thin–her famed composure is in danger of sailing away. One boat, hundreds of devoted readers, and seven Big Personalities. What could possibly go wrong?

Disaster strikes when, on the second day of the cruise, Hugh is found murdered. And, in the face of gross incompetence by the on-board security force, Pip realizes she’ll need to be the one to discover who did it. With the ship stranded in the middle of the Atlantic and no help on the horizon, it’s up to her to unravel the mystery. Along with her friend Nash–a dreamy Western author who’s just as rugged as the cowboys he writes about. As Pip’s composure starts to sink faster than a leaky dinghy, Nash becomes her anchor in a storm of clues and red herrings.

With Nash at her side, Penelope dives into the murky depths of the mystery, navigating treacherous waters filled with unexpected twists and turns. No one, not even a desperately hopeful mystery sleuth named Pip, could anticipate the wild ride ahead. Whether she likes it or not, she is on the adventure of a lifetime . . . and maybe, just maybe, she’ll find love along the way.

The Lies that Summon the Night by Tessonja Odette
Releasing February 17, 2026

Lies, beauty, and seduction mingle in the first book of an enthralling romantasy series where making art is considered a sin, and the shadows born from it aren’t the only danger to the creators—from the bestselling author of Curse of the Wolf King.

From the art of liars, the monsters came…

Ever since art gave life to bloodthirsty shadows, creative works have been forbidden and the talented creators sacrificed to the Sinless—the immortal royals who feast on human blood in return for their protection.

Inana’s secret storytelling nearly got her killed once, and she’ll be damned if she’s ever caught again. With a bounty on her head, she keeps to the city’s dark underbelly where she earns a meager living from thrill-seeking patrons desperate to hear her illicit fiction. Until Dominic, a Shadowbane, catches one of her performances. . .

Dominic is a half-Sinless monster hunter as fearsome as his prey. But to complete his hunt, he needs an artist to summon the shadows . . . he needs Inana. Dominic delivers an ultimatum: serve him or he’ll claim her bounty. When survival is all Inana has left, the choice is clear. At least until she can betray him and leave him for dead.

As their tense alliance leads them into the heart of danger, dark secrets unravel—about each other, their world, and the threats they face. But the greatest risk of all is the desire growing between them. There’s something more sinful than lust at play, and it could bring the world to its knees.

The Astral Library by Kate Quinn
Releasing February 17, 2026

From New York Times bestselling author Kate Quinn comes a gorgeously written fantastical adventure which poses the question: Have you ever wished you could live inside a book? Welcome to the Astral Library, where books are not just objects, but doors to new worlds, new lives, and new futures.

Alexandria “Alix” Watson has learned one lesson from her barren childhood in the foster-care system: unlike people, books will never let you down. Working three dead-end jobs to make ends meet and knowing college is a pipe dream, Alix takes nightly refuge in the high-vaulted reading room at the Boston Public Library, escaping into her favorite fantasy novels and dreaming of far-off lands. Until the day she stumbles through a hidden door and meets the Librarian: the ageless, acerbic guardian of a hidden library where the desperate and the lost escape to new lives…inside their favorite books.

The Librarian takes a dazzled Alix under her wing, but before she can escape into the pages of her new life, a shadowy enemy emerges to threaten everyone the Astral Library has ever helped protect. Aided by a dashing costume-shop owner, Alix and the Librarian flee through the Regency drawing rooms of Jane Austen to the back alleys of Sherlock Holmes and the champagne-soaked parties of The Great Gatsby as danger draws inexorably closer. But who does their enemy really wish to destroy—Alix, the Librarian, or the Library itself?

The Last Lady B by Eloisa James
Releasing May 12, 2026

Lady B may have married Bluebeard; she may have fallen in love with a gorgeous, grumpy solicitor; she may have met a ghost and survived to tell the tale! New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Eloisa James delights with witty historical romance with a gothic twist.

In the depths of winter, Lady Genevieve Hughes, her pet piglet, and her septuagenarian husband travel to a haunted abbey in the Scottish Highlands. Evie is excited to meet a ghost (perhaps one of her husband’s three previous wives), but didn’t expect the funny, quirky guests to become the friends she’s never had. And she certainly didn’t imagine meeting Sir Godric Everly, a sardonic, witty solicitor who loathes her husband.

Yet as secrets and lies turn Evie’s world upside down, Sir Godric becomes the one person whom she can trust.

When ghosts, multiple wills, and a shocking marriage certificate bring Lord Burnsby’s past crashing into his present, Burnsby promptly dies, leaving Evie free to remarry…though as a virgin wife, now a virgin widow, she is more unnerved by the marriage bed than a spectral visit.

More importantly, she has to figure out whose identity is false, whose vows are dishonorable, whose truths could destroy her reputation—and where her heart belongs.

The Shippers by Katherine Center
Releasing May 19, 2026

One of the hottest, fastest-rising rom-com stars delivers her latest swoon-worthy novel about a destination wedding on a cruise ship.

After a whole lifetime of being bad at love, JoJo Burton decides to solve her intimacy issues once and for all at her sister’s destination wedding on a cruise ship. With the help of a little pop psychology, she diagnoses herself with a fixation on the neighborhood guy who was her her first crush and first kiss (and who just happens to be a newly-divorced wedding guest ), and she decides to woo him during the cruise for some long-delayed closure. Only problem is, her sister’s a little busy being a bride at the moment—so JoJo ropes in her childhood bestie, Cooper Watts, to be her wing man. Cooper: who RSVPed no, but then showed up, anyway. Cooper: who left town without a word four years earlier and moved to London. Cooper: who was, if she’s honest, the worst heartbreak of JoJo’s life. It’s bliss for her to see him again, and it’s agony, too—and the more they team up for Project Conquest, the more she obsesses over questions she can’t bring herself to ask.

Shipboard antics ensue in this witty, heart-tugging, childhood-friends-to-lovers romance—as JoJo and Cooper fake flirt, slow dance, share a cabin, sing duets, treat sunburns, get jealous, rescue each other over and over, and finally, at last, figure it all out in the most blissful, swoony, romantic way.

No one does summer romance quite like Katherine Center. THE SHIPPERS will take readers on the cruise of a lifetime in a story awash with romantic longing, top-notch banter, long-held secrets . . . and true love rediscovered.

A Curse of Beasts and Magic by Jeaniene Frost
Releasing May 26, 2026

New York Times bestselling author of The Night Huntress series Jeaniene Frost returns with a brand-new series! It’s Beauty and the Beast meets The Witcher in this dark fantastical retelling, except Beauty IS the Beast, and he’s the Warden keeping mythical beings in check in our world and beyond.

Raine Stone was the sole survivor of a horrific creature while camping. Her account of the attack was attributed to shock, but Raine knows all too well that her story is true because now she carries that same Beast inside her!

She’s been restraining its violent urges by letting it ‘feed’ on the pain and chaos she’s exposed to as an ER nurse, and by playing vigilante against would-be muggers at night. But when Raine uses the Beast’s energy to heal a frail elderly gentleman from a seemingly random attack, she opens herself to a new world of danger—literally.

Remington “Remy” Byrne knows that the wall between a realm of deadly mythic creatures and our own world is very thin; he’s the Warden who guards the gateways between them. He also rules the supernatural creatures living in secret among us. Raine’s Beast makes her an intruder on Remy’s territory, but the elderly gentleman she saved is Remy’s grandfather, and her Beast contains power that could tip the scales in a sinister plot against Remy’s rule—if Raine allies with him.

Will they be friends or foes…or will the dangerous attraction between them turn into something else? And can our world be saved by their explosive alliance?

Top Ten Best Books I Read in 2025

Posted January 5, 2026 by Jana in Top Ten Tuesday / 45 Comments

Welcome to another TTT! And happy New Year! I can’t believe it’s 2026, can you? Wishing you all the good things this year has to offer, including many amazing books! Before I look forward, though, I thought it would be nice to share my favorite reads of 2025. These are not necessarily books that released in 2025, just books I read in 2025. I read 46 books last year and 16 of them were 5-star reads for me. I’m choosing my favorite ten of those 16! I’m going to share in the order I read them because you can’t possibly make me rank these! Surprisingly, half of my picks are novellas. 2025 was a rough reading year for me, so I read many novellas and found some really amazing ones!

Desert Island Duke by Kate Bateman
Two people shipwrecked on a deserted island over Christmas! Fake amnesia is adorably used here. lol.

Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros
This series owns me. It was mean of the author to leave us with such a cliffhanger with no idea when the next book is coming out, but I will survive because she deserve a break. lol. Cannot wait to see what happens next!

Good Spirits by B.K. Borison
I happy sigh every time I think of this book. I’m not usually one for ghosts, and I don’t like A Christmas Carol at all… but this book is perfection and may be my favorite book of the entire year. Don’t tell my books that, though. It’s our secret.

Give Me Butterflies by Jillian Meadows
I love a STEM romance! This one is between two curators at a science museum and has a lot of depth as well as humor. And there’s major found family stuff going on here, too, which I loved!

Another Fish in the Sea by Amy Kelly
It’s wild to me that a 32-page novella had the impression on me that it did, but this was everything. I loved it so much. It’s so, so romantic. I swooned all over the place. I hope this author writes more, because I can only imagine how amazing a full-length novel from Amy Lee would be if this is what she does with 32 pages!

The Promise of a Kiss by K.C. Bateman
The Mummy movie, but make it steamy. Give me more romances set on a treasure hunt in Egypt!

Metal Slinger by Rachel Schneider
Give me book 2 IMMEDIATELY. One of the best romantasies I’ve read. It’s full of adventure and twists and turns. I could not put it down.

Falling by Christina Lauren
This one surprised me a lot. I hate stories with angels/fallen angels, but this was wonderful!

Snowed In by Catherine Walsh
Catherine Walsh writes my favorite Christmas books. This was so festive and fun!

Acting Merry by Martha Keyes
This book contains my favorite book boyfriend of 2025!

What was your favorite (or tell me a few favorites if you can’t pick like me) book you read in 2025?

Posted December 29, 2025 by Jana in Top Ten Tuesday / 19 Comments

Welcome to another TTT! I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas last week, and that you got lots of books or gift cards for books. I thought it would be fun to make this week’s topic “Most Recent Additions to My Bookshelf ” so you can share your holiday haul! I can’t wait to see what you got! Here’s everything I received this Christmas. Several of them are from people who sent me books after last week’s TTT. Please read my thank-you’s below. <3

The first three are from my TBTB Secret Santa, Theresa (The Calico Books)!

Acting Merry by Martha Keyes
This is my favorite of all the Christmas books I read this year, and I’m so happy to have a copy for my collection!
The Endless War by Danielle L. Jensen
I love this series!
Servant of Earth by Sarah Hawley

These next three are from my mom!

Give Me Butterflies by Jillian Meadows
The Folklore of Forever by Sarah Hogle
Take Me Back by Meghan March

Alchemy of Secrets by Stephanie Garber
Susan from Bloggin’ Bout Books sent me this! Funny story… this arrived with no gift note so I had no idea who to thank. My friend told me that Amazon sometimes helps if the item was bought off a wishlist. I did a live chat and the person I spoke with told me he could only give me the first letter of your first name, but that if I could guess the right name he’d confirm it. Unfortunately, I know many people whose names begin with “S”. lol. After guessing wrong twice, he finally gave up and told me it was from Susan! I remembered the comment you left on my TTT last week and immediately knew it was from you. Thank you so much! I will be making this my first read of 2026.

My Merry Mistake by Courtney Walsh
Cindy from Cindy’s Book Corner sent me this, and I’m so excited! This was at the tippy top of my Christmas TBR this year and I’m going to try to squeeze this one in after my current Christmas read. I think I can do it! Thank you, Cindy!

A Suitable Arrangement by Martha Keyes
The gift note says this is from R. I know you’ve sent me a book before, and I still can’t figure out which R you are! But thank you SO much for this book! I have fallen in love with Martha Keyes’s books over the last couple years and this will be my first of her historical romances! I’m so excited.

The Secret Mistletoe Promise by Cressida McLaughlin
This was on sale on Christmas Day (and it’s still on sale at the time of writing this post), and I had to buy it with some of my Amazon credits!

What books have you added to your collection lately?
Wishing you a Happy New Year!
I hope 2026 brings you happiness, good health, and lots of page-turners. I’ll see you next year!
