Top Ten Books I Meant to Read In 2017 But Didn’t Get To

Posted January 8, 2018 by Jana in Top Ten Tuesday / 72 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted over at the other blog I write for, The Broke and the Bookish.

I suppose today’s post is kind of like a 2018 TBR? We’re talking about the books we had planned to read in 2017 but just didn’t get to for some reason. Sadly, my list is REALLY long because I fell into a major slump. I’m hoping 2018 is better to me, though! I’m excited about all the possibilities. I’m sharing with you 10 of the books I’m hoping to make a priority this year.

1. A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas
I loooove this series, but when ACoWaR came out I just wasn’t in the right frame of mind to read it. I tried to read it, but set it aside to finish later and never did. I really want to soon, though!

2. Greenglass House by Kate Milford
This sounds like the sweetest middle grade novel, perfect for winter time. I picked it up at ALA a few years ago and just never got to it. Now that the sequel has come out, I really want to read it!

3. The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan
I’ve heard great things and have been wanting to read this for quite some time now. It sounds like so much fun, and perfect for me right now.

4. My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows
I love these authors, love historical fiction, love the premise, and it has raving reviews. I MUST get to this one quickly.

5. When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon
This just sounds too cute to go unread.

6. Traitor to the Throne by Alwyn Hamilton
Rebel of the Sands was one of my favorite books last year, so I have no idea why I haven’t read this book yet.

7. Uprooted by Naomi Novik
I’ve been so intimidated by this book, and I don’t know why! It looks beautiful, it sounds beautiful, and it has gotten amazing reviews from the masses and from many people I trust. I need to just take the time and read it.

8. Ten Thousand Skies Above You by Claudia Gray
I loved A Thousand Pieces of You, but when this book came out I wasn’t in the mood and then I kept putting it off because it had been so long since the first book that I couldn’t remember what happened! And I don’t want to re-read… but I might have to. I really want to read this one and the third one!

9. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
I’ve NEVER read this book, but I really want to. I love the BBC series and I love Mr. Darcy so I really want to read P&P finally!

10. Sleepless in Manhattan by Sarah Morgan
I love Sarah’s books, I loved Miracle On 5th Avenue (book #3 in this series), so I’m excited to read the rest of it!

Which books should I push to the very top of my list?
Which ones would you not recommend?
What books are you hoping to get to this year?

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted over at the other blog I write for, The Broke and the Bookish.

I can’t believe Christmas is next Monday! This holiday season always flies a little too quickly for me, but I’m also excited because I know Santa is going to bring me all the bright, shiny books! Consider this my letter to Santa. I hope to find all of these in my stocking this year. :)

1. Every Breath You Take by Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke
I’ve always been an MHC fan, and I really like this Under Suspicion series she wrote with Alafair.

2. The Hating Game by Sally Thorne
I LOVE this book, and I really want a physical copy for my bookshelf.

3. I Temporarily Do by Ellie Cahill
I love fauxmances, and this one sounds so fun!

4. Mary Poppins 80th Anniversary Collection by P.L. Travers
I’ve always wanted to read the Mary Poppins books, and this collection is so pretty!

5. The Ends of the World by Maggie Hall
I haven’t read book #2 yet, but I loved The Conspiracy of Us and am excited to see how this series ends!

6. Little Monsters by Kara Thomas
I asked Twitter for a bunch of mystery recommendations a few months ago, and this one is loved by so many that I really want to read it!

7. Dance of Thieves by Mary E. Pearson (pre-order)
IT’S MARY PEARSON.

8. A Dance of Silver and Shadow by Melanie Cellier
It’s a retelling of The Twelve Dancing Princesses! The entire series sounds great. The second book is a Beauty and the Beast retelling that I really want as well.

9. About That Kiss by Jill Shalvis
The Heartbreaker Bay series is tons of fun!

10. In Safe Hands by Katie Ruggle
Katie Ruggle is one of my favorite romantic suspense authors, and I love this Search and Rescue series!

My Top Ten Favorite Books of 2017

Posted December 12, 2017 by Jana in Top Ten Tuesday / 21 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted over at the other blog I write for, The Broke and the Bookish.

While 2017 has been pretty good to me in some ways, it’s been slightly disappointing as far as books go. It started off with a bang, and then everything got “meh”. Maybe I’ve been in a slump for most of the year, but things have not gone very well. lol. I’m hoping for a better reading year next year! I’ve written these out in order of when I read them.

1. Caraval by Stephanie Garber
I was truly and utterly captivated by and immersed in this story from the first page.

2. The Thousand-Dollar Tan Line by Rob Thomas
It was like reading an episode of Veronica Mars! Loved it!

3. Hunted by Meagan Spooner
GORGEOUS writing! This story is super unique, while still remaining true to the elements I’ve come to love from Beauty and the Beast.

4. The Hating Game by Sally Thorne
I’ve never finished a book before and then immediately wanted to flip to page 1 and start over again.

5. Till Death by Jennifer Armentrout
My new favorite romantic suspense, and the book that I will use to judge all future romantic suspense novels I read.

6. The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
There’s so much feeling and mystery surrounding the water horses and the people who ride them. The mystical aspects of the island and the races themselves made me forget I was even reading anything.

7. Hold Your Breath by Katie Ruggle
Another really great romantic suspense about a team on a search and rescue dive team in the middle of winter. SO good.

8. Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco
I loved everything about it… the heat between Audrey and Thomas, the setting, the mystery, and Kerri’s beautiful writing style.

9. Miracle On 5th Avenue by Sarah Morgan
Such a sweet Christmas romance! He’s an icy author, and she’s a warm and peppy Christmas fanatic. Such a festive, New York City romance. I’m running a giveaway for a signed copy of this book right now!

10. Chasing Christmas Eve by Jill Shalvis
Another fun and festive Christmas romance! This time SHE’S the author (and a YA one–YES), and he’s a rich nerd. Love these two!

Tell me some of your favorites of 2017! I’m always looking for new recommendations.

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted over at the other blog I write for, The Broke and the Bookish.

I don’t know about you, but I am REALLY excited for winter. We’ve had unseasonably warm weather where I live, and it doesn’t even feel like Christmas. I want snow and freezing temperatures so I can wear my cozy sweaters and curl up under my fuzzy blankets. I want fires! This time of the year I love reading two things: Christmas romances and fantasy. I’ve chosen 5 of each for today’s topic!

Snowbound with Mr. Wrong by Barbara White Daille
Once Upon a Christmas Eve by Elizabeth Hoyt
Merry and Bright by Debbie Macomber
Kiss Me in New York by Catherine Rider
Maybe This Kiss by Jennifer Snow

A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet
Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller
To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo
Traitor to the Throne by Alwyn Hamilton
By A Charm and a Curse by Jamie Questell

Which books are you looking forward to reading this winter?
Anything on my list you think I need to push ahead of the others?
